For niche language streaming platform Hoichoi, Bengali content remains core but the SVF-backed streamer is now increasingly creating businesses beyond its flagship platform.
The biggest of these bets is LoglineAI, a newly created AI-native entertainment studio launched by founder Vishnu Mohta. The studio develops original films, series and branded content using a proprietary AI production pipeline called LoglineOS. The company aims to build multilingual intellectual property across genres including fantasy, mythology, science fiction, horror and animation.
Mohta told Moneycontrol that the company has spent 18 months experimenting with AI-driven content creation and expects to unveil its first fully AI-generated show as part of Hoichoi’s Season 10 announcements.
The move comes as Hoichoi increasingly positions itself as a broader content and intellectual property company rather than just a streaming service.
The platform has already created around 200 original Bengali series, giving it a large catalogue of stories that can be adapted across languages and markets, Mohta said.
Alongside LoglineAI, Hoichoi is also pushing into emerging storytelling formats.
The company is launching Sooper, a subscription-based platform focused on microdramas and audio dramas. The service is debuting simultaneously in India and the United States and will offer content in Hindi, English and other regional languages.
At launch, Sooper will feature more than 40 Hindi titles in India and over 20 microdramas and 20 audio drama series in the US market.
The platform will use AI across planning, curation and content creation while maintaining a premium subscription model.
Hoichoi has also introduced Hoichoi FM, an audio entertainment platform focused on Bengali listeners. The service offers more than 1,000 minutes of audio content spanning detective fiction, thrillers, fantasy, romance and family dramas, all housed within the existing Hoichoi app.
Mohta said these moves are an attempt to capture younger audiences increasingly spending time on vertical-video formats and audio content. Earlier this year, Hoichoi’s management had signalled that growth would come from creating new formats and audience entry points rather than simply expanding the core OTT business.
A key growth driver for the streamer remains its overseas audience.
According to Mohta, around 40 percent of the company’s revenue now comes from outside India, with international subscribers paying roughly $10-$12 a month. He expects global markets to continue contributing significantly because of higher willingness to pay among diaspora audiences.
In addition, the platform is also exploring content opportunities in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Punjabi and Gujarati while continuing to keep Hoichoi focused on Bengali content.
Content remains the centrepiece
Even as it experiments with AI, audio and short-form video, Mohta said the company’s core investment thesis remains unchanged.
For its Season 10 slate, Hoichoi plans to announce around 25 shows, four to five films, two LoglineAI projects and several other initiatives.
“If there is one thing we know how to do, it is content,” Mohta said. “Everything else should be secondary.”
As the platform completes 10 years in business, Mohta said the platform has recorded 20-30 percent annual growth and it has been cash-neutral operations over the past three to four years. The company remains self-funded, with no external investors on its cap table.
The next phase, however, looks very different from the first.
“We’ve always believed growth has to be calibrated and durable,” Mohta said, adding that aggressive growth could be achieved through heavy marketing spends but may not be sustainable over the long term.
