Charlie Sheen is returning to TV in a familiar role: Martin Sheen‘s son.
The Sheens will star together in Happy Jack, a new AMC comedy series from showrunners Jim Patterson and Matt Ross, who previously worked with Charlie on Two and a Half Men.
“I’ve always heard the moments that truly matter happen when they’re supposed to,” Charlie said in a statement. “The good folks at AMC have played a huge hand in deciding that moment is now. It’s no secret that it’s been a minute, and I’m thrilled to be going back on television in such a meaningful way in an equally wonderful show. The crew has reassembled – suffice it to say, it’s time to give the people what they want.”
Happy Jack stars Charlie as Jack, a lifelong ne’er-do-well who has two daughters that his dad (Martin) helped raise. When one of the girls comes home with her new boyfriend, Jack is shocked to realize that the investment banker-turned-van life guru is the same age as him. Jack must then decide if he’s going to keep looking out for himself, or if he’s ready to embrace his last chance to be a real part of his daughters’ lives.
The half-hour comedy’s first season will consist of six episodes.

The Sheens previously played father and son in the 1987 Oscar-winning film Wall Street and Charlie’s post-Two and a Half Men comeback vehicle Anger Management.
Happy Jack will be Charlie’s first major role since Anger Management ended in 2014. He was one of TV’s biggest stars during his Emmy-nominated run on Two and a Half Men, but then his life took a turn.
Production was paused on season 7 when he entered drug rehabilitation, with the problems escalating the following year as Charlie endured an infamous meltdown. After further drug issues and constant disparaging comments about creator Chuck Lorre, Charlie was fired for “dangerously self-destructive conduct” and replaced by Ashton Kutcher for the final four seasons. He has since revealed that he is HIV-positive.
“There were phases where the show was difficult,” Charlie’s mom on Two and a Half Men, Holland Taylor, recently toldEntertainment Weekly. “Charlie’s personal demons took over, and he had his crash and burn. I was very sorry that it had to end like that. And I was very sorry for the bad state that Charlie was in. Charlie then went through his changes, and I think he’s found a better life now.”
Happy Jack is set to begin filming early next year and premiere sometime in 2027.
