Director Rawindra Pulle has revealed why he chose Rashmika Mandanna to play the fierce Gond tribal woman in Mysaa. He said her intense eyes in Sita Ramam convinced him that she was the right fit for the role.

Rashmika Mandanna receives praise
Mysaa is going to explore a completely different side of Rashmika Mandanna’s acting and director Rawindra Pulle has now revealed what made him believe that she is the right choice for the role in the first place.
It was Rashmika’s work in Hanu Raghavapudi’s Sita Ramam that piqued the interest of the filmmaker. What had drawn Pulle’s attention was the fire in the actress’s eyes — the type of fierce quality that he knew would make for the perfect character at the center of Mysaa.
The choice of Rashmika for Mysaa
Rashmika has played a spectrum of characters in her career, but Mysaa pushes her into a much rougher and physically challenging zone.
The actress essays the role of a fierce Gond tribal woman in the action thriller. Pulle seems to have decided to cast her after seeing the kind of emotion she expressed in Sita Ramam.
The director felt there was something beyond the familiar screen image of Rashmika and the intensity that was visible in her performance could be used for a far tougher character. “I love her eyes, and in one of the sequences, I saw the intense anger depicted in her eyes, and I knew I had found my ‘Mysaa’.”
Mysaa also requires physically strenuous action sequences from Rashmika.
Her transformation has already been teased in the film’s teaser, where she is seen fighting her opponents with a sickle and even engaging in an underwater fight scene.
Pulle said in her comments that the actress had undergone specialized training in Italy and Thailand as part of her preparation for the role.
The teaser introduces her character in a rugged tribal setting and slowly reveals a woman who moves from dealing with her own difficulties to confronting the challenges around her.
“Rashmika’s character in Sita Ramam was a far cry from the one she is playing in Mysaa. The difference between the two performances is also what makes Pulle’s casting choice interesting.
Instead of selecting her for the roles she is most famous for, it seems the director has zeroed in on a particular trait he noticed in her acting – a means of expressing anger and intensity through her eyes. “I told her that she would become my heroine someday. It was the power of manifestation.”
Mysaa is thus another attempt by Rashmika to expand her range of characters, especially with action-oriented and physically intense roles.
Mysaa is directed by Rawindra Pulle. Rashmika Mandanna plays the lead role. Eshwari Rao, Guru Somasundaram and Rao Ramesh are also part of the cast.
The film is scheduled for a worldwide release on 27 November 2026, in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam.
Rashmika’s new look in Mysaa will be quite different from many of the actress’s recent screen appearances, with the tribal setting and action-oriented plot.
