Xbox Is Finally Getting A Feature PlayStation Has Had For Years

Completionists rejoice — Microsoft is now introducing a new achievement that takes heavy cues from PlayStation’s Platinum trophy. The news was likely teased by Xbox CEO Asha Sharma in an X post back in August (with the cryptic tweet simply stating “Team is working on something for later this year!”), and now evidence points to the company releasing a “Mythic achievement” for gamers to earn in titles that support achievements.

If you’re not familiar, Xbox games can include achievements, which are essentially tasks gamers can complete to increase the Gamerscore that appears within their Xbox profile. Within this new system, users will receive a Mythic Achievement whenever they complete every achievement from a specific base list within a game (DLC and add-on achievements don’t count). The news also follows Xbox giving achievements a major facelift back in April, and new evidence around this new feature continues to emerge.

Along with the CEO hinting at the change, other clues have slowly begun leaking online, including Xbox Insiders discovering new filters representing the award, along with discoveries within the Xbox PC app (per Neowin). Discoveries within the Xbox PC app also suggest that this system may be more rewarding for players than the PlayStation equivalent (though Sony is no stranger to borrowing ideas from Xbox, as it did with a PC overlay in April 2024). Unfortunately, gamers may have to wait to find out when this new system is actually set to arrive.

When are Mythic Achievements coming to Xbox?

There is currently no release date for the new Xbox Mythic achievement, though reports suggest the company is gearing up for a public launch. According to a report from TrueAchievements, an anonymousement will “roll out to players soon.” However, once the new achievement begins rolling out, it should be retroactive, so players won’t need to go back and try to earn it in past games

If a game has achievements, players will be able to unlock the Mythic achievement for any game they have 100% completion of base achievements within. A user’s total number of Mythic achievements will be displayed on the user’s profile, and users will also receive a system animation, icon, and sounds that accompany scoring the achievement. Games with this achievement will appear in a user’s Gaming tab with a green border, green star, and laurel to note completion. Notably, Mythics reward no Gamerscore.

Finally, users will also be able to track their Mythic achievements through separate filters, and there will also be an option to track how far into a game a user is until completing the achievement. Users can also filter out DLC or add-on achievements that don’t go toward the Mythic award. For those who like to brag, this is sure to be a fun way to do just that (especially with more notoriously difficult games like “Dark Souls”). Of course, Xbox Series X users also get some new features to look forward to in September.
