Konami Kicks Off 40 Years ‘Castlevania’ With Discounts, Music and a Potential New Collection?

With the Castlevania series having hit the big 40, and with Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse on the way, Konami is in the mood for celebrating. They’ve released a new trailer to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the franchise, as well as announcing that the original Castlevania, which was first released for Nintendo Entertainment System way back in 1986, is available for free for a limited time on iOS

The game will be available free of charge during its limited distribution period, which will end on October 24. After that, players who downloaded the game during this free period will be able to download it again and play it.

“The original Castlevania marks its 40th anniversary. To mark this special occasion and share the celebration with all who have supported the series throughout the years, we are releasing the original Castlevania as a free app for a limited time. We hope you will take this opportunity to revisit the story that started it all.”

Other games in the franchise that are available digitally on Steam, PlayStation and Xbox are getting massive discounts until October 1.

And for fans who love the series’ music (and really, who doesn’t?), you’ll once again have the opportunity to grab the massive 46-LP setMusic from Castlevania – Black & Red from the Materia Collective that was released last year. If you’re not into vinyl, you’ll be pleased to know that the set, which spans the entire series from 1986 to 2010, is now available on streaming platforms.

Still with the music, Konami also announced that it will be putting on a trio of orchestral concerts in early 2027 to celebrate the franchise. The ‘Castlevania 40th Anniversary: An Orchestral Concert’ will be held in Tokyo, London and Los Angeles. Details for the concerts will be available soon.

If all that’s not enough, some fans who watched the anniversary video have noticed something peculiar. Castlevania fan JupiterClimb mentioned on X that at around a minute into the video, a series of portraits can be seen leading to Dracula’s throne room. Alongside the art for Belmont’s Curse, there’s art for Castlevania: Curse of Darkness, Castlevania: Lament of Innocence, and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow.

While Konami hasn’t said anything yet, some fans have taken this to mean that Konami is planning to release a 3D collection of Castlevania titles, similar to how they’ve previously released the Anniversary Collection, Advance Collection and Dominus Collection. This of course begs the question that if this is true, would we see the Nintendo 64 Castlevania titles in this collection? Again, this is all pure speculation at this point, but fingers crossed!
