Nicki Minaj takes aim at how Democrats court artists ahead of Lara Trump sit-down
Nicki Minaj has settled into a second career lane this month, and it runs through Fox News.
TMZ reported that the rapper appears in a teaser clip promoting her interview with Lara Trump, where she explains what turned her against the Democratic Party. Her central complaint concerns the relationship between politics and entertainment.
“I think the Democrats have gotten way too caught up in pop culture, for lack of a better term,” Minaj said. She went further, arguing the party has “allowed their relationships with artists to cause them to act like children and to be so petty and childish.”
The critique carries an obvious tension given where she delivered it. Minaj made the remarks on a program hosted by the president’s daughter-in-law, appearing as a recording artist whose political commentary generates coverage precisely because of her music career.
The argument that entertainers hold too much sway in political discourse lands differently coming from one, on a network booking her for that reason.
There is a version of her point worth taking seriously. Democrats have leaned heavily on celebrity endorsements, stadium-sized rallies and artist partnerships in recent cycles, with mixed returns and persistent criticism that the strategy substitutes visibility for organizing. Minaj did not develop that argument in the clip, but the underlying frustration is not unique to her.
It is also her second Fox appearance in roughly a week. Speaking with Laura Ingraham, Minaj was asked what she would say to critics of her support for President Donald Trump. Her answer was two words: “Absolutely nothing.”
That posture has defined her public political identity since she began describing herself as a Trump supporter in 2025. Earlier this month, she was named a judge for the administration’s Million-Dollar Pitch Competition in Washington, an “Apprentice”-style small business contest scheduled for later in September alongside Dean Cain and administration officials, placing her inside an administration-branded event rather than simply commenting on one.
For Black audiences who have followed Minaj since her Young Money years, the arc has been jarring. She spent much of her career as one of hip-hop’s most commercially dominant figures without a defined political profile, largely avoiding the subject while her contemporaries took positions. The past year has supplied one, delivered mostly through conservative media rather than her own platforms.
