Nigerian actor Richard Mofe-Damijo appears in Netflix series A Different World

In the United States, Nigerian actor Richard Mofe-Damijo made a guest appearance in the new Netflix series A Different World. In the seventh episode, he portrays Chukwu, the father of one of the main characters, student and entrepreneur Kojo Achebe.
According to Premium Times Nigeria, the series was released on Netflix on September 24, 2026. It is a continuation of the American sitcom that debuted on NBC in 1987. The new story returns to the fictional Hillman College, a historically Black institution of higher education, and focuses on a new generation of students.
Role in the seventh episode
In the episode, Chukwu and his wife from Ghana unexpectedly come to visit their son at college. Kojo had hidden from his parents that he was involved in fashion and told them he was studying engineering. According to the publication’s description, the character is of Ghanaian-Nigerian descent, grew up in London and is developing his own business in fashion.

Mofe-Damijo is not part of the main cast. Kojo Achebe is played by Chibuikem Uche. The main cast also includes Maleah Joi Moon, Alijah Kai, Cornell Young IV, Jordan Aaron Hall and Kennedy Reece.
Continuation of the classic sitcom
The series consists of 10 episodes and was created by Felicia Pride. The central character is Deborah Wayne, the daughter of Whitley Gilbert-Wayne and Dwayne Wayne, characters from the original show. After failing at New York University, she enrolls at her parents’ alma mater and meets other freshmen.
Actors from the original series, Jasmine Guy, Kadeem Hardison, Darryl M. Bell and Cree Summer, also returned in the continuation. The season’s plot covers studies, relationships, funding issues facing historically Black colleges, mental and sexual health issues, as well as parental expectations.
