Dancing With the Stars judge Carrie Ann Inaba might not be fully in step with the show’s new one-word review rule.
After the show implemented a stipulation mandating that a rotating combination of two of the show’s three judges were able to give beyond a single-word critique on Tuesday’s “Viral Hits Night” episode, the longtime panelist elaborated on the feedback she would’ve given to the show’s latest eliminee, Giada De Laurentiis.
“I was sad I didn’t have a chance to say more on air,” Inaba wrote on Threads in response to a post from the competition series‘ official account.
Inaba went on to write that “watching Giada dance as a true and absolute beginner was inspiring and I commend her on being so courageous.”
She added that what “makes her so incredibly special is the grounded honesty she expressed while going through this journey while also expressing pure glee and joy in the process of learning something new” in the ballroom.
“It’s wonderfully freeing to step out of your comfort zone but only becuase it’s also absolutely terrifying,” Inaba finished, capping the post with “Bravo” alongside a heart-shaped emoji.
One viewer replied to the exchange, expressing frustration over the newly implemented rule for the show’s panel of judges, which also includes Derek Hough and Bruno Tonioli.
“More judges notes and less interviews questions!!!” the viewer commented. “This needed to be said performance night.”
Hough previously reacted to fan criticism over the shift, which host Alfonso Ribeiro described on the air as necessary because the show is “super packed” as it is.
Nodding to the beloved NBC sitcomThe Office, Hough made a social media post about the rule that included the remark, “I knew exactly what to do, but in a much more real sense I had no idea what to do,” while he added the caption, “I didn’t get the memo.” On Instagram, Hough referenced Mary Poppins when he wrote, “Should’ve busted out Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.”
De Laurentiis, a Food Network star, left DWTS earlier this week after receiving a score of 12 out of 20, which tied her withJimmy Kimmel Livestar Guillermo Rodriguez as the lowest-scoring celebrities of the week.

The celebrity chef also made headlines over a rift with dance partner Alan Bersten, though she later mouthed a brief apology to him during the live episode. Bersten later said during a joint interview with Entertainment Tonightthat Laurentiis is “never allowed to apologize” to him.
