Veteran actor Mushtaq Khan, known for his role in Welcome, has passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2026. The veteran actor was reportedly battling liver cancer. He was 75.
Mushtaq Khan was admitted to Nanavati Hospital in Mumbai on Thursday after his condition became critical. He was placed in the ICU and reportedly passed away on Thursday evening.
A formal statement from his family or a friend is still awaited.
Fans started pouring in tribute soon after the news of his death made the rounds on social media. His demise came as a huge loss for the entertainment industry.
The actor, whose career spanned both Hindi cinema and television, was celebrated for his adaptable performances in supporting roles.
He became popular for his role as a disabled hockey player in the Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif-starrer movie Welcome (2007). His dialogue, ‘meri ek taang nakli hai,’ in Welcome helped him to make a special place in his fans’ hearts.
Over a career that has lasted several decades, the actor has featured in a wide variety of films and TV shows, frequently standing out even within ensemble casts. He is known for starring in movies like Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke, Gadar: Ek Prem Katha and Jodi No. 1.
He made headlines in 2024 after he was kidnapped on the Delhi-Meerut highway. The kidnappers demanded a ransom of Rs 1 crore.
The veteran actor was lured to Delhi under the pretext of an award show on 20 November 2024, and was later kidnapped on the Delhi-Meerut highway. He was taken to Bijnor, where he was tortured for 12 hours while kidnappers demanded a Rs 1 crore ransom.
After escaping by seeking help from locals, Mushtaq Khan initially refrained from reporting the incident, but later filed an FIR with supporting evidence after comedian Sunil Pal suffered a similar ordeal.
The Uttar Pradesh Police linked both kidnappings to the main accused, Lavi Pal and Arjun Karnwal, subsequently arresting four accomplices and recovering Rs 1 lakh from them.

For the unversed, the veteran actor was born in Baihar town of Balaghat district, Madhya Pradesh, to a Muslim family.
The veteran actor’s television credits include Wagle Ki Duniya(1988), Chacha Chaudhary, Adaalat and more.
He also starred in the Netflix series The Railway Men and Kuch Rang Pyar Ke Aise Bhi Season 3.
