Disney Announces a New Darkwing Duck Series for Disney+

After 35 years trapped in an alternate world, the legendary hero is pulled back into action by a rebellious teenager who knows his past.
On September 22, 2026, Disney announced the launch of a new animated series, “Darkwing Duck,” for Disney+. The project will bring Drake Mallard back as the crime-fighting superhero.

The new series is being created by Sean Tretta, known for “Star Trek: Picard,” and Borja Peña Gorostegui. They will also serve as executive producers. Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Alex McAtee, and Gabby Grantham of Point Grey Pictures are producing the project.
Tad Stones, the creator of the original “Darkwing Duck,” consulted with the team during the development of the character’s new adventures.
The Plot of the New “Darkwing Duck”
For 35 years, Drake Mallard has been trapped in his worst nightmare – an alternate world where no one has heard of his superhero exploits. That changes when Ducky, a rebellious teenager who knows all about Drake’s heroic past, brings him back into the fight.
The unlikely duo will once again face off against old enemies, including Negaduck and Megavolt. Alongside Launchpad McQuack, Gosalyn, and Morgana, the heroes will attempt to save the entire universe.
Mark Hamill will voice Drake Mallard, also known as Darkwing Duck. Seth Rogen will play Launchpad McQuack, Lizzy Caplan will voice Gosalyn Mallard, and Lilymar will play Ducky.
The cast also includes Dan Stevens as Glade McTowers, Tiffany Shepis as Rosa, Kathryn Newton as Firecracker, Theo Briones as Timb, Tyler Dean Flores as Pondsy, Katie Rich as Officer Shanks, and Nat Faxon as Officer Webb.

Like every fan of the original series, I’m thrilled to see Darkwing get dangerous again in an entirely new series. The new creative team has greatly amplified the dynamic and comedic elements while preserving that Disney warmth. This series continues the literary tradition of Robin Hood, Zorro, and Sherlock Holmes – heroes whose stories have been reimagined by many creators in different formats. They explored the essence of these characters, placing them in new eras, relationships, and even universes. Regardless of the time or place, Darkwing Duck will emerge in a cloud of blue smoke to reclaim the spotlight.
What Is Known About the Original Series
The original “Darkwing Duck” was produced by Disney Television Animation. The Emmy-nominated series consisted of 91 episodes. It premiered on Disney Channel in 1991, after which it aired on ABC and in syndication.
The ABC run ended in 1993, while the syndicated run continued until 1995. The series briefly returned to syndicated programming in 1996–1997.
“Darkwing Duck” also received video games for the Nintendo NES in 1992 and Game Boy in 1993. In 1994, the character appeared in the comic book “The Disney Afternoon Fun Issue” alongside characters from “Bonkers,” “Goof Troop,” and “Chip ’n Dale: Rescue Rangers.” He later appeared in the new version of “DuckTales.” The original series is already available on Disney+.
Point Grey Pictures
Point Grey Pictures was founded by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and James Weaver. The company works on film and television projects across a range of genres.
Its projects include a special “Muppets” presentation for Disney+, the series “The Boys,” “Invincible,” “Preacher,” “Future Man,” “Black Monday,” and “Platonic,” as well as the films “Neighbors,” “This Is the End,” “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem,” “The Disaster Artist,” and “Blockers.”
The premiere date for the new “Darkwing Duck” series on Disney+ has not yet been announced.
