You’ll be in a state of nirvana over Frances Bean Cobain’s latest outing.
Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love’s daughter stepped out to attend her first red carpet appearance in nearly a decade for a special screening of the forthcoming film The Deputy—which the 34-year-old is listed as an executive producer on—in Los Angeles on Sept. 22.
For the occasion, Frances wore a distressed graphic T-shirt and black shorts that featured a lace hem, which she pulled together with an oversized brown leather jacket. To top off her look, the model opted for white boots and a matching shoulder bag.
The event marks a rare public outing for Frances, who hasn’t posed for the cameras at a red carpet event in eight years.
While she’s strayed from the spotlight in more recent years, in 2018 she became a red carpet regular at events such as The Daily Front Row’s 4th Annual Fashion Los Angeles Awards in Beverly Hills and the Other Peoples Children store launch, where she was pictured with her mom.

But these days, Frances is focused on motherhood. After all, she and her husband Riley Hawk—son of Tony Hawk—have shared small glimpses into their journey as parents to their 2-year-old son Ronin, calling their son in a recent birthday tribute a “free wheeling, adrenaline seeking, nature loving, wind in the willows, sunshine boy!!”
“Once a day Riley & I look over at each other to say ‘I can’t believe we made him,’” she continued in a Sept. 17 Instagram post alongside adorable pics of their little guy. “I would live through every hard thing 1,000 times again, knowing it all lead to a present, loving life with this kid. Thank the universe he is here.”
But before her happily ever after, Frances was candid about the difficult chapters in her life. In fact, less than two years after she was born, Kurt died by suicide at 27 years old, which she previously admitted is a part of her story she still grapples with.
“I wish I knew the cadence of his voice, how he liked his coffee or the way it felt to be tucked in after a bedtime story,” she shared in an April 2024 Instagram post. “I always wondered if he would’ve caught tadpoles with me during the muggy Washington summers, or if he smelled of Camel Lights & strawberry nesquik (his favorites, I’ve been told).”
But despite her grief, the visual artist noted that Kurt “gifted me a lesson in death that can only come through the LIVED experience of losing someone.”
And that’s why three decades after the tragedy, she’s been able to make peace with what she can’t control.
“The duality of life & death, pain & joy, yin & yang, need to exist along side each other or none of this would have any meaning,” she added. “It is the impermanent nature of human existence which throws us into the depths of our most authentic lives. As It turns out, there is no greater motivation for leaning into loving awareness than knowing everything ends.”
