Adam Driver is playing Mister Sinister when the X-Men come to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, although there is no word yet on how he will make his debut. There is a chance that he could be the villain in the first X-Men movie, but it might be better if he is an overarching villain, pulling strings for a series of movies, similar to Thanos in the Avengers movies. With an actor like Adam Driver attached, there is hope that Mister Sinister is more than a one-and-done villain in the MCU. That said, there are a lot of great story options from the comics that could be perfect to introduce Mister Sinister into the MCU.

When Mister Sinister is introduced into the MCU, he could show up as the man behind the scenes, possibly sending in a team like the Hellions or the Marauders, and both of those teams could be deadly enemies of the young X-Men. The introduction could also set him up as a more personal villain against Cyclops and Jean Grey, which could bring in anything from Madelyne Pryor to his more storied history with the Summers family. Any of these options could bring in the best X-Men villain who hasn’t been actively in a movie yet.
5) Inferno
Inferno might be a tough story to start with, but it could offer up a villain who could challenge the X-Men, with Mister Sinister pulling the strings. There would have to be several changes to the original storyline since this is a tale with Madelyne Pryor as the villain. With Jean Grey never dying and being replaced with the clone, it would present a struggle to turn the story into a replication of the comic. However, there are ways it could happen, including bringing back Jean’s sister from the dead, only to reveal her to be a clone Mister Sinister created.
She could become Madelyne Pryor and then the Goblin Queen, trying to take over the planet and bring Hell to Earth. This would cause massive damage, and the blame could be directly placed on the mutants, which would lead to more laws, the Sentinels, and the public fear of these new heroes. When Jean Grey learns that Mister Sinister was responsible, it could set up the rest of the X-Men saga with their main villain set in stone. This might be a little complicated for the first X-Men movie, but it would definitely kick things off with a bang.
4) The Mutant Massacre
“The Mutant Massacre” is one of the most devastating X-Men storylines in history. The Morlocks are mutants who live underground because their mutations don’t allow them to fit into society, and they had to go into hiding for their own safety. However, in this storyline, a team of mercenary mutants attacks and slaughters nearly the entire community. Only a few of the Morlocks survive, and even the X-Men take heavy damage trying to protect them. The twist here is that it was Mister Sinister who sent his Marauders to the tunnels to kill all the Morlocks.
This entire plan was an attempt by Mister Sinister to hide his genetic experiments, and the Morlocks were evidence of his misdeeds. If the MCU adapted this story, it would be a way to have the X-Men fight a team of relentless killers, including Sabretooth, and it would show how dangerous it is to be a mutant in this new world after Avengers: Secret Wars resets things in the MCU. The mass casualties and the damage suffered by the X-Men would force this team of young mutants to grow up fast.
3) Hellions
The Marauders are Mister Sinister’s team of villains who have done a lot of bad things for him, including “The Mutant Massacre” and the events that turned Madelyne Pryor into a cold-blooded villain herself. However, they aren’t the only team that Mister Sinister has led. In the Krakoa era, Mister Sinister also had a black-ops team in the Hellions, which was the re-creation of an old team that Emma Frost once formed. While Emma’s team was made up of young mutants to rival the New Mutants, Mister Sinister’s Hellions were a strike force.
Mister Sinister’s Hellions could be an interesting addition to the MCU because they would offer a team of mutant antiheroes who play opposite the X-Men, but in a very different way than Magneto’s Brotherhood of Evil Mutants did. The team featured some very dangerous mutants, including Psylocke, Greycrow, Wild Child, Empath, Havok, Nanny, and Orphan-Maker. Psylocke would give the team a familiar face for X-Men ’97 fans, and Havok is Cyclops’ brother, so that would also add a nice wrinkle to Mister Sinister’s debut.
2) Sins of Sinister
“Sins of Sinister” was a 2023 Marvel crossover event that ran throughout various mutant comics, and it is a complicated story that could place the MCU’s X-Men in a more sci-fi realm than anything in the franchise has done to this point. In this series, Mister Sinister murders Krakoa’s ruling Quiet Council and takes total control of the entire mutant nation. The story then jumps ahead 10 years down the line, then 100 years, and finally 1,000 years to show what his actions caused.
This was the event that started the end of the Krakoa era, and it showed what Krakoa’s resurrection protocols and cloning technology could cause if they fell into the wrong hands. That is the role Mister Sinister played here. Clearly, this can’t play out in the MCU as it did in the comics, but there could be a similar storyline, especially if Mister Sinister’s actions could lead to devastation in the mutant community on Earth. It is a worst-case scenario storyline, and if there is one thing X-Men comics do well, it is alternate-future storylines.
1) The Further Adventures of Cyclops and Phoenix
Mister Sinister is one of the X-Men’s deadliest and most persistent villains, but he is more than that. Beyond the X-Men, he is actually Cyclops and Jean Grey’s greatest villain. He has always been obsessed with Cyclops and Jean Grey’s family line, and he has done everything he could to ensure that he had control of that line’s future. He created Madelyne Pryor as a clone of Jean Grey to have Scott’s baby, and then Sinister tried to take that baby (Cable) to help him in his future battles against Apocalypse.
“The Further Adventures of Cyclops and Phoenix” was a second miniseries for the two X-Men members, and this one was special because it took a long look at the definitive origin of Mister Sinister. This story showed him building the original team that would eventually become the ones who caused “The Mutant Massacre,” and it showed how he first encountered Apocalypse and how Sinister became the villain he is. This is a self-contained period piece, and it is the best Mister Sinister origin story ever told.
