At least it got one thing right
Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story makes up and exaggerates lots of the story, but one thing it does get scarily right is the characters’ appearances. Ryan Murphy’s latest Monster instalment is about the American woman from Fall River, Massachusetts, who was accused of killing her father and stepmother with an axe in August 1892, and the cast really do look like the real-life people they play. Here are some side-by-side photos of the characters and their real counterparts, which show how spot-on Netflix got it.
Lizzie Borden
From old photos, it looks like the real Lizzie Borden had curlier hair, but other than that, her character really is accurate. Ella Beatty plays her perfectly, and their facial features look eerily alike.
Bridget Sullivan
Vicky Krieps’ casting as Bridget Sullivan is spot on too. Their lips and eyes honestly look identical. The only difference is the real maid appeared to have her hair up a lot, and didn’t change her hair colour.
Emma Borden
Lizzie’s sister Emma is played by Billie Lourd in the Monster series, and real-life photos show her looking really similar. Her face shape isn’t quite the same, though.
Abby Borden
Rebecca Hall is probably the one who looks the least like her character, Abby Borden. She actually opened up about how she had to invent her personality, because there wasn’t much information out there about her.

Andrew Borden
From Ed Gein to Andrew Borden, Charlie Hunnam can mould himself into all kinds of different characters very well, but they should have given him a longer beard.
John Morse
Lizzie’s uncle John Morse is played by Joey Pollari and he doesn’t look overly similar to his character. Again, there isn’t loads of information out there about him.
Aileen Wuornos
The best casting of the entire Netflix series has to go to Sarah Paulson, playing Aileen Wuornos. It’s so accurate it literally could be her. I had to do a double take.
Tyria Moore
Wuornos’ ex-girlfriend Tyria Moore is absolutely spot on too. She famously testified during Wuornos’ 1992 murder trial in Daytona Beach.
