Mich. (WOOD) — On Saturday, more than 280 comic book stores internationally will be participating in Local Comic Shop Day, including Grand Rapids’ own Vault of Midnight downtown
Each year, Local Comic Shop Day partners with hundreds of comic book stores to coordinate a series of limited time only, exclusive “variant cover” releases of several popular comic book series.

“(Local Comic Shop Day) is a fun day to experience something that can feel exclusive,” said Paloma Deerfield, assistant manager at Vault of Midnight Grand Rapids. “It’s a good opportunity for people who are new to comics … to come check it out and know fun things are happening in these stores.”

Vault of Midnight in downtown Grand Rapids is celebrating its 10th year in business.
Between 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, shoppers at Vault of Midnight can browse exclusive items like a Local Comic Shop Day-themed variant cover of a new “Star Trek” number one issue, a new deluxe hardcover edition of “Watchmen” and more.
Additionally, the second volume of the graphic novel adaptation of “Dungeon Crawler Carl,” a popular fantasy and sci-fi book series, will be available for purchase at Vault of Midnight two weeks before its official release.
Deerfield hopes that events like Local Comic Shop Day continue to introduce more readers to the world of comic books and help grow Vault of Midnight’s loyal community of subscribers and fans.

“We see the same folks come in every week,” Deerfield said. “We certainly have folks coming in since we opened.”
All Local Comic Shop Day purchases must be made in-person at Vault of Midnight Grand Rapids, and each customer is limited to only one exclusive item at checkout.
