Mich. — City leaders and the group Play Without Boundaries unveiled a new comic book Wednesday at the University of Michigan-Flint campus based on the life of 10-year-old Kaden Stevenson
The book, “Kaden Blaze Meets the Flu Fighters,” is the second comic based on Stevenson’s life. The character Kaden Blaze is based on Stevenson, who lost both of his legs to a life-threatening battle with the flu when he was seven years old.
The comic follows other real-life survivors of vaccine-preventable diseases.
Michele Stevenson, Kaden’s mother, spoke at the event.
“I’m super proud of my baby. You know he talked about being a superhero when he was in the hospital. I knew he would make a big impact, but I didn’t know how big the impact would be. So, this is really amazing to see,” Stevenson said.
Local health leaders hosted a free vaccine clinic at the event. Health leaders urged all families to get flu shots to protect their children as the region enters respiratory illness season.
