Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid expressed his appreciation to Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Roblox David Baszucki, for the steps that Roblox has taken in Indonesia
In a meeting at Roblox’s headquarters in Silicon Valley on Tuesday, September 22, Meutya emphasized that the implementation of Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 concerning the Governance of the Implementation of Electronic Systems in the Protection of Children (PP TUNAS) must be translated into concrete steps within the platform.
According to him, several Roblox initiatives such as the implementation of facial age estimation technology, restrictions on communication features for child users, as well as the launch of Roblox Kids and Roblox Select are one of the company’s concrete steps in complying with applicable regulations.
However, this step is considered necessary to continue to be strengthened, especially in ensuring more accurate age verification and stricter protection mechanisms for users under the age of 16.
Meutya also emphasized the importance of applying the principle of safety-by-design, namely ensuring that child safety and protection aspects are built from the product and feature design stage.
With this approach, protection efforts are not only carried out after a violation or risk arises, but become part of the system and user experience from the beginning.
The government asked Roblox to strengthen restrictions on interactions between children and strangers, prevent the transfer of communications outside the platform, and improve the ability to detect and stop risky behavior early on.
“We understand that many Indonesian children are fond of Roblox. Therefore, we hope that Roblox also loves our children, especially by ensuring their safety,” said Meutya.
During the meeting, Baszucki said that Roblox was aware of the company’s responsibility to its users, especially the younger generation.
He also stated Roblox’s openness to continue adjusting its products to the regulations and needs of the countries where the platform operates.
“We continue to work on adjusting our products to comply with regulations in Indonesia,” said Baszucki.
Baszucki said that a number of changes requested by Indonesia could be part of the direction of Roblox product development in the future and could potentially be applied in other countries.
