Daredevil: Born Again will officially end with the upcoming season 3, Entertainment Weekly has learned.
Filming was underway in New York City on the Marvel event series, and it’s nearly finished in post-production. However, showrunner Dario Scardapane, who came aboard the show during the season 1 creative overhaul, parted ways with Marvel Studios. Scardapane’s contract was up, and the powers that be did not renew it.
Marvel had no comment. The Hollywood Reporter was the first to report the news.
A rumor began picking up steam on social media earlier on Monday, suggesting bad news was coming for Daredevil: Born Again. Hours later, the update came to light.
It’s a surprising move as Scardapane was in the midst of post-production. It’s now unclear who will step into that role to complete work on season 3, which is set to premiere in 2027.
Brad Winderbaum, the head of Marvel Television, was adamant in press interviews that he wanted the show to be an annually recurring series for Disney+. Season 2, however, had a significant drop in viewership on the streaming platform.
Daredevil: Born Again brought back the major players from Marvel’s previous live-action Daredevil series on Netflix, which also ended after three seasons. The familiar faces included Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/Punisher, Wilson Bethel as Benjamin “Dex” Poindexter/Bullseye, and — in an added surprise for season 2 — Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones and Mike Colter as Luke Cage.
Season 3 already had some hype due to the season 2 finale reveals, plus photo leaks from the season 3 set in New York that showed a number of additional returning characters.
Scardapane headed the Netflix Punisher series, starring Bernthal, but he returned to take the reins of Daredevil: Born Again. The show went on hiatus during the 2023 Hollywood strikes, prompting a creative overhaul in which the new showrunner revamped the narrative and brought back more original characters. Scardapane then took over more readily with season 2.

Daredevil: Born Again marks the latest series cancellation at Marvel, which pulled the plug on Emmy-nominatedWonder Man after originally renewing it for season 2. VisionQuest, starring Paul Betanny, will now premiere Oct. 14 as the final installment of the WandaVision TV trilogy.
However, today’s news comes as Marvel Television greenlit a spy thriller referred to as Zodiac. It’s not immediately clear what the title refers to, as there are multiple characters in Marvel comics that used that name, as well as a Zodiac criminal organization.
