PS5 user nets $10 free credit as new PlayStation rewards scheme surfaces

After previously scrapping PlayStation Stars, it looks as if PlayStation may now be preparing to launch a new rewards scheme with one user claiming to have received free credit.

In February of this year, a Wallet Credits app was spotted on the PlayStation Store.

Officially issued by PlayStation, the app merely stated that it was “announced” and could be added to players’ wishlists.

At the time, it was speculated that this might be linked to a new rewards scheme as players can already top up their PlayStation account with funds without the need for a specific app.

This was merely speculation based on the available evidence, but the theory is looking even more likely now after one store user claims to have pocketed $10 in free credit.

In an update provided by PlayStation Lifestyle, it’s noted that references to Wallet Credit are surfacing on a variety of games, including The Blood of Dawnwalker, Halloween, Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, Star Wars Zero Company, and more.

A screenshot taken from Reddit shows both the Standard Edition and Eclipse Edition of The Blood of Dawnwalker listed with the following text underneath: “Includes Wallet Credit Offer ends 9/29/2026 7:59PM”.

What this means exactly isn’t all that clear, although the implication is that by purchasing the game, you receive free bonus wallet credit.

Reddit user JannJans said they ended up with $10 after proceeding to purchase both The Blood of Dawnwalker and Dragon’s Dogma 2.

“I was deciding between Dragon’s Dogma 2 and Blood of Dawnwalkerand noticed a special offer with the latter. Has anyone else seen something similar with other games? This makes me think that the PlayStation Stars program is coming back in another shape or form,” they said.

“Yup. $10 exactly and it showed up immediately after purchase,” they later added after someone asked just how much credit they ended up with.

This doesn’t feel like an intentional rollout. Reddit user 2019HondaCivicTypeR said, “It says ‘Your pre-order is locked in!’ for the 10 dollar credit but never got the credit.”

Until anything is confirmed by PlayStation, this all needs to be taken with a pinch of salt, but it does look more likely than not that a new rewards scheme is on the way.

JanJanns may have benefitted from PlayStation merely running tests on the new feature. If that is the case, there’s a possibility that the free credit could be revoked.

PlayStation Stars began to wind down in May 2025 when it stopped accepting new members. Existing members were then prohibited from earning new points from July 2025.

PlayStation Stars required you to earn points which you could exchange for store credit, virtual collectibles, or free games.

If this Wallet Credits debacle is a new rewards scheme, it looks as if PlayStation is set to offer fixed free credit amounts on certain purchases only.

The presence of a time and date limitation on the Wallet Credit offer seems to suggest that perhaps new releases will be targeted as a way to encourage consumers to buy digitally.

From January 2028, PlayStation will no longer produce physical copies of its new games so it makes sense that the company might lay the groundwork now to make that a smooth transition for consumers.

This also fits with PlayStation’s new ethos that it’s bothered less about selling new consoles and more about encouraging existing owners to spend more on subscriptions, games, and accessories.
