Which Nvidia GPU Is Equivalent To The PlayStation 5 Pro?

Can a console like the PlayStation 5 Pro really hold its own against high-end PC hardware? The PS5 Pro is the most powerful console on the market, taking the already impressive performance of the base PlayStation 5, and boosting frame rate and resolution support even higher. It’s designed for gamers who want the best possible performance without having to sacrifice visual quality with a low-resolution performance mode.

The benefits vary from game to game, but on the whole, the PS5 Pro really does offer an improved experience over standard PS5 consoles. It uses custom AMD hardware inside, so you can’t just walk into a store and find the PS5 Pro’s GPU on a shelf. The latest and greatest Nvidia GPUs have it beat, but you can still get PS5 Pro-level performance with one of Nvidia’s newer cards.

The closest Nvidia GPU match is an RTX 5060 Ti, which stands shoulder to shoulder with the PlayStation 5 in running new AAA games. It can even outperform the console in certain situations, but it’s not always a one-side competition.

How is the RTX 5060 Ti similar to a PS5 Pro?

    Tech components with Nvidia branding

The PS5 Pro GPU has a similar spec sheet and clock speed to the 5060 Ti, but in-game benchmarks are where the comparison really starts to become clear. It’s difficult to tell the two apart in some cases, and the 5060 Ti is even flexible enough to match the PS5’s usual graphics and performance modes.

Looking at a graphically-intensive game like “Black Myth: Wukong”, the PS5 Pro features a 60 fps performance mode that runs at 1080p, as well as a 30 fps graphics mode that boosts the resolution to 4K. The RTX 5060 Ti actually slightly beats the PS5 Pro at similar settings, breaking past the console’s 60 fps cap when using DLSS upscaling.

Even when more advanced graphical features like ray tracing are introduced, the RTX 5060 Ti can still match the PS5 Pro in most games. The 5060 Ti can handle “Alan Wake 2,” which makes heavy use of ray tracing effects, at basically identical settings to the PS5 Pro’s quality and performance modes.

How does the PS5 Pro compare to other hardware?

The PlayStation 5 Pro is a remarkably powerful device, and its performance exceeds the other consoles on the market. Its GPU is 45% faster than the base PS5, and the addition of PSSR gives the PS5 Pro even more impressive visuals and performance. Even though the Xbox Series X is slightly faster than the base PS5, it’s still nothing compared to the PS5 Pro. The Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series S don’t come anywhere close, either.

That said, while the PS5 Pro stands at the top of the console market, there are other benefits to PC gaming that the PS5 Pro just can’t match. The RTX 5060 Ti might be the closest GPU on paper to the Pro, for example, but Nvidia 5000 series graphics cards support multi-frame generation, boosting frame rates way higher than what’s possible on PS5 Pro.

PC gamers also have more granular control over graphical settings and resolution, as well as their other components like CPU and RAM. A poor PSSR implementation or choppy framerate on PS5 Pro can’t be remedied without a developer patch, but PC players can tinker with things for faster fixes.
