Morgan Freeman‘s weekend is going to be full of lionesses, LSU Tigers, and College GameDay.
On Sunday, Freeman’s Lioness airs its season 3 finale, and he’ll be celebrating the day before in Oxford, Miss., where he’ll be the celebrity guest picker on ESPN’s beloved pregame show, which last week featured Glen Powell in the role.
Freeman will be stepping into quite the environment, as the Mississippi resident arrives for Ole Miss vs. LSU, an SEC rivalry made all that more juicy by the fact that new LSU coach Lane Kiffin left Ole Miss for this gig after leading his former school to the college football playoff.
“I have my feelings about Ole Miss and football,” Freeman said on The Pat McAfee Show. “I’m looking forward to being there on Saturday and looking forward to this game, I promise you.”
When asked who he roots for as a football fan, Freeman, rocking an Ole Miss pullover, gave a deadpan reply: “What am I gonna say here?”
Freeman’s most famous moment at an Ole Miss game came two years ago, when he attended a basketball showdown between Ole Miss and Auburn. As Auburn star Johni Broome fell into the stands, two people in the front row put their hands on him for support, and without looking, Broome slapped them away. Once he turned around, he quickly realized it was Freeman and went out of his way to make amends with the Oscar winner.
Meanwhile, every celebrity who goes on College GameDay must now do so in the shadow of Timothée Chalamet’s iconic performance. In late 2024, the Dune star rattled off stats and predictions for small-conference teams as if he were one of the longtime analysts.
College GameDay airs Saturdays at 9 a.m. ET/6 a.m. PT on ESPN, while the Lioness finale hits Paramount+ on Sunday. Circle back to EW.com for coverage of the latter.
