The manga, based on the original Lycoris Recoil anime, follows high school girls Chisato Nishikigi and Takina Inoue as they work as agents for Direct Attack, a secret organisation that protects Japan from threats. The story follows the pair as they take on missions while dealing with their very different personalities and the secrets surrounding Chisato’s past.
The Lycoris Recoil manga launched in September 2022 and has been serialised in Kadokawa’s Monthly Comic Flapper since its debut. The publisher has collected the manga into nine volumes as of August 2026.

The anime was produced by A-1 Pictures and directed by Shingo Adachi, who previously worked as a character designer and animation director on Sword Art Online. Asaura, known for the Ben-To light novels, handled the original story concept, while Imigimuru provided the character designs.
Lycoris Recoil became one of the more talked-about anime series of its 2022 season, and its popularity led to several spin-off projects. These include the manga adaptation, a light novel series and additional manga projects based on the characters and setting.
