The fourth installment in the Deadwood zombie series launches September 25 in the U.S., Canada, and Hong Kong; bookings are now open

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Sandbox VR today announced Deadwood Origins, a new full-body horror-action VR adventure in its fan-favorite Deadwood zombie series. The experience launches starting September 25 at participating locations in the U.S., Canada, and Hong Kong. Bookings are now open at https://sandboxvr.com/experience/deadwood-origins.

Deadwood Origins deploys players as an elite security squad escorting a disease specialist to a remote jungle village that has gone dark. When infected wildlife attacks their aircraft, the mission becomes a fight for survival across a crash site, an abandoned village, a moving gondola, and the ruins of an ancient temple. Along the way, the squad confronts undead enemies, infected monkeys, bats, and a massive serpent while working together to protect one another and find a path to rescue.

Using Sandbox VR’s proprietary full-body platform, groups of up to six guests can move and interact together through motion tracking, haptic vests, headsets, and physical props. Because players can see and physically interact with one another, every rescue, surprise, and close call becomes a shared team moment that goes beyond what traditional media or at-home VR can deliver.

Deadwood Origins rewinds the series to the moment the nightmare began, tracing the zombie virus to its source before the events of Deadwood Mansion, Deadwood Valley, and Deadwood PHOBIA. As the saga’s prequel, it offers a natural starting point for guests who want to follow the story chronologically, while remaining a complete standalone adventure that requires no prior knowledge. The new chapter builds on a proven franchise: the three earlier Deadwood titles have sold more than 2.66 million tickets and generated more than $140 million in sales.

“Deadwood Origins is the biggest and most ambitious experience we’ve ever made,” said Michael Hampden, SVP of Content & Creative Director at Sandbox VR. “This time we go back to when the nightmare began and take you on an adventure packed with huge visual wow moments, terrifying new enemies, and nonstop surprises. Our team poured everything into this one, and we can’t wait for guests to enjoy it together.”

Deadwood Origins returns to the original property that helped establish Sandbox VR’s approach to social, location-based VR, while expanding the saga with a new cinematic adventure. It joins Sandbox VR’s slate of original and licensed experiences, including Stranger Things: Catalyst and Squid Game Virtuals, developed in collaboration with Netflix, and Age of Dinosaurs, created in collaboration with the Natural History Museum, London.

Bookings for Deadwood Origins are now open in the U.S., Canada, and Hong Kong for play beginning September 25. Bookings in additional international markets open beginning September 22. Visit https://sandboxvr.com/experience/deadwood-origins for local booking and availability information.
