    Roblox Loosens Its Own Walls

    Seventy-one percent is the number worth holding onto. Of everyone who has built and published a game using Build, the tool that turns a typed prompt into a playable experience, 71% had never opened Roblox Studio before. About 9,000 games have shipped this way since Build launched in July. Roblox spent two decades teaching people to use its editor, and a text box has now brought in a cohort that never bothered to learn it.

    The company announced the changes at its developers conference on Friday. Build is only part of it. A Scene Generator arrives later this year, letting creators supply a text prompt and a reference image to produce a functional game layout. Roblox also plans to introduce non-player characters capable of playtesting games, which turns a tedious quality assurance job into something that runs overnight.

    The distribution announcement carries further. Roblox will help creators release their titles as standalone apps on mobile, PC and consoles, providing the technology and services underneath. A game built on the Roblox engine will be able to live in an app store on its own terms, reaching players who have never installed the Roblox client.

    Play Without the App

    Browser play arrives by the end of the year. Players will be able to open a game in Chrome from its Experience Details page with no download and no install, and further browsers follow after that. A link shared on social media, in search results or in a message becomes a direct route into a game, which removes the single largest step between discovery and play.

    Offline support is the other half. Creators will be able to combine online and offline modes inside one game, which opens the door to single-player campaigns and to sessions on a plane or anywhere the connection drops. Roblox is also widening what its engine can handle, adding an orthographic camera, animated image containers and direct sprite-sheet import so that 2D and puzzle games work properly rather than approximately. New interface features cover blur, text shadows and better gradients, and a notification system will support turn-based multiplayer where players take turns hours apart.

    Why Roblox Is Giving Ground

    Letting a game exist outside the Roblox app trades control for reach. The platform’s growth has historically come from network effects inside a single client, and every standalone app weakens that slightly while opening a much larger addressable market. The company’s own announcement from the developers conference frames the package around play, building and growth, with the 20th anniversary providing the occasion. The financial side moved at the same event, with creators having earned more than $5 billion since the developer exchange programme began in 2013 and roughly $1.7 billion in the twelve months to June, alongside a new wallet and card giving faster access to earnings.

    The AI tooling is the part that changes who participates. Removing the requirement to learn a professional editor before building anything playable widens the creator base far beyond the teenagers who traditionally learned Studio the hard way, and it puts Roblox in direct competition with the general-purpose coding assistants that hobbyists already use. The platform has been moving this way for a while, with an assistant that can already plan a game, build it, play it and assess its own work. The open question is quality control. Nine thousand games is a small number against Roblox’s catalogue, and nobody yet knows what the hundred-thousandth prompt-generated game looks like.
