Several Tollywood celebrities includng SS Rajamouli, Vijay Deverakonda, Samantha Ruth Prabhu and others have reportedly received notices amid the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Telangana. The celebs received notices for being ‘Unmapped with Last SIR’. Besides them, sportspersons like VVS Laxman, Mithali Raj, Saina Nehwal and others also received notices.
Tollywood celebrities receive SIR notices
According to Times Now, the List of Persons to whom notices have been issued, renowned Telugu stars, including SS Rajamouli, Mahesh Babu, Venkatesh Daggubati, Ravi Teja, Namrata Shirodkar, Vijay Deverakonda, andSamantha Ruth Prabhu, have been named.
According to the list, Mahesh Babu, Vijay and his younger brother Anand Deverakonda, Samantha, Rajamouli, and Namrata were listed as unmapped in the last SIR, while Suma Kanakala received the notice for ‘Self Name Mismatch’. According to reports, Venkatesh’s daughters have also been named in the list.
Notably, the celebrities named in the list have not violated any rule of the Election Commission of India (ECI). However, they are required to complete the necessary procedures so as to prevent their names from being struck off the final list. Given that there are high-profile members on the list, the Election Commission often permits an authorised representative to attend the official verification hearing on their behalf.
What does it mean?
In cases of ‘Unmapped with Last SIR’, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) ask the elector for information about the elector’s residence in 2002-2004. This information includes details about the State, district, constituency, or taluka. Based on this , the BLO retrieves the previous SIR details through the ECINet app or the portal. Additionally, the electors can also collect this information themselves through the app or portal before the BLO’s visit.
According to the official details, the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) is the process of preparing fresh rolls to ensure that the Electoral Roll for Legislative Assembly constituencies in the State is accurate, complete, and does not have errors. For the unvered, a Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Roll wasconducted across the country during 2002-2004.
Since then, factors including rapid urbanisation, migration of citizens, death of electors, and duplication of names have often created the need for preparation of fresh Electoral Rolls. As a result, the programme is being implemented in phases throughout the country.
