S.D. (KELO) —Boden Parker started playing video games when he was about 5 years old
“I remember playing Crash Bandicoot and Mario Kart with my dad when I was really young. Those are some of the earliest video games I played,” SoDak Circuit Participant, Boden Parker said.
That’s why he’s excited for this weekend’s SoDak Circuit– an esports tournament hosted by SDN Communications and its 17 member-owner companies.
“This is our third annual year doing it. And like I said, it’s just a free competition for people to get together and play video games,” SoDak Circuit Co-lead Hannah Boquet said.

There will be a variety of games at the tournament for people to take part in.
“Anywhere from fighting games, like Counter-Strike 2 is new this year or Fortnite. And then we have racing games, and other games like Rocket League and Madden ’26 and Super Smash Bros and Mario Kart World. And then some other things too, like RPG rooms so people can play Dungeons and Dragons and lots of other stuff,” Boquet said.
Parker enjoys activities both on and off the screens.
“I mainly do the cosplay stuff, so I have a cool suit of armor I’ve been working on, but I’m probably going to play Mario Kart as well. But I mostly just for fun. I don’t actually care about winning or anything like that. I just enjoy playing it,” Parker said.
Organizers are excited to bring people with similar passions together.
“In Sioux Falls, there’s not a lot of opportunities for people who are interested in video games and e-sports to come together in person and get to, like, meet each other and play together in person. So the SoDak Circuit makes a really cool opportunity for people in Sioux Falls, or even the surrounding areas, to get together and build that community over something that there is mutual enjoyment and passion about,” Bouquet said.
Doors open at 8 A.M. on Saturday.
It’s first come, first served to get entered into the tournaments, so organizers recommend getting there early to guarantee your spot.
