A big deal… if you’re a fan of large grey bricks

LEGO and Sony revealed 72306 PlayStation this week, but how well does the set stack up against other brick-built video game consoles?

We got our first look at 72306 PlayStation this week, a 1,911-piece LEGO set that emulates Sony’s original multi-million selling video game platform and launches next month. Yet, as impressive as the near 1:1 scale model may be at first glance, just how well does the model compare to its real-life counterpart and other brick-built video game consoles released in recent years?

Those are the topics under discussion in Matthew’s latest video below, which takes a deeper dive into 72306 PlayStation to discover if the upcoming LEGO set has what it takes to successfully replicate the experience of playing a PlayStation back in the day.

Of course, nostalgia is a very powerful thing and has seen the LEGO Group release a number of licensed retro video game consoles in brick form of late, including the likes of 71374 Nintendo Entertainment System, 10306 Atari 2600, 72046 Game Boy and 40926 SEGA Genesis Console.

The jury is still out in whether or not 72306 PlayStation will manage to make the grade and scratch that brick-built itch for video game fans of a certain age, but we’ll know for sure once the LEGO console finally arrives online and in stores.

In the meantime, be sure to check out Matthew’s latest video above, as well as subscribe to the Brick FanaticsYouTube channel to be kept up to date with the latest LEGO news.

LEGO Insiders members will be able to pick up 72306 PlayStation on October 1, while everyone else can make their purchase from October 4, with the upcoming set priced at £139.99 in the UK, $179.99 in the US and €159.99 in Europe.
