Changes are coming to Minecoins for Nintendo

Changes are coming to how you can spend Minecoins purchased on Nintendo platforms and cross-play. Here’s the what, why, when and how of the matter.

Minecoins (as we know) are Minecraft’s virtual currency for the Minecraft Marketplace. Starting October 27, 2026, Minecoins purchased in Minecraft on a Nintendo device (Nintendo Switch™ or Switch™ 2) will be available to use only on those systems.

Similarly, Minecoins purchased in Minecraft on another device can no longer be used for Minecraft Marketplace purchases on Nintendo devices October 27 onwards.

But here’s an important, and hopefully reassuring, note: Minecoins you already own are not changing. Minecoins owned before October 27 will move to a Legacy Wallet, and will continue to be usable across compatible platforms. There is no expiration date for the Minecoins in this wallet – but they will get used up first, before Minecoins purchased after the launch (which will go into a separate Nintendo Wallet, if purchasing from a Nintendo device). (Well, there goes my idea of preserving them as a historic artifact.)

Other things to keep in mind going forward:

    Retail & Minecoin cards

Newer retail cards may no longer support Nintendo devices. Look out for the platforms listed on the packaging to ensure the card supports where you intend to play!

Similarly, when purchasing new Minecoin cards, check supported platforms before purchasing or redeeming to make sure your platform of choice is listed.

For more info on Minecraft Minecoins for Nintendo, identifying your Minecoin card’s supported platform, and more, check our player support page.
