Fall 2026 TV preview: 38 shows to put on your radar

Get ready for ‘Carrie’, Netflix’s ‘Pride and Prejudice’ and Sharon Horgan’s outrageous new HBO comedy

The summer might be winding down fast, but the TV calendar is hardly cooling off, as the next three months boast a bunch of series worth checking out. (If you’re looking for the movies you need to see come September,we’ve got you.) This fall promises highly anticipated returns, withBlack Doves,The LowdownandSlow Horseslaunching new seasons.

There are also plenty of intriguing debuts, including a stuck-in-a-rut comedy from Sharon Horgan, aParks and Recreunion of sorts, Zoe Kazan’s take onEast of Eden, seasonally-appropriate scares courtesy ofCarrieandCrystal Lake, Netflix’s hotly debatedPride and Prejudiceand more. Here are the shows – in chronological order by US premiere date – to watch out for. 

American Hostage (MGM+)

AverybusyJon Hamm portrays an Indianapolis radio anchor dealing with a particularly tricky caller (Giovanni Ribisi’s Tony, who kidnaps his mortgage broker and threatens to blow his brains out) in this late-’70s thriller based on the podcast of the same name (which also starred theMad Menvet). Mireille Enos,The Good Place‘s William Jackson Harper and Kristoffer Polaha round out the cast. 

Youth (HBO)

The great Sharon Horgan (Bad Sisters,Pulling,Divorce) returns to HBO with her latest stuck-in-a-rut comedy, starring as a fiftysomething divorced woman who starts asking some big life questions (among them, ‘Do you think you can still be sexy when you’re 60, like, in a club?’) as her son prepares to head off to college.

Brothers (Apple TV)

The boys – that is, Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson – are back with a decidedly lighter series thanTrue Detective, playing fictionalised versions of themselves as they cope with the news that they could just be related. (Where do theycome up with this stuff?) The comedy was concocted bySchitt’s Creek’s David West Read,The Office‘s Lee Eisenberg and the Texas-born buds themselves. 

East of Eden (Netflix)

Zoe Kazan bringsJohn Steinbeck’s masterpiece to the small screen (much like her grandfather Elia did to the big one back in the ’50s). Florence Pugh stars as Cathy Ames in the decades-spanning Netflix miniseries, anchoring a stacked cast that boasts Mike Faist, Ciarán Hinds, Hoon Lee and the always welcome Christopher Abbott and Martha Plimpton.  

War (HBO)

‘This is likely to be the biggest divorce trial in British legal history,’ we’re told in the teaser for this HBO drama, in which a posh and seemingly mild-mannered couple (played by Sienna Miller andThe Wire’s Dominic West) endure a very messy and public split. (She’s a movie star; he’s a tech billionaire.)Hijackco-creator George Kay cooked up the story. 

Carrie (Prime Video)

Horror favourite Mike Flanagan makes the move from Netflix to Prime Video for his latest Stephen King adaptation, a six-episode telling of the meek and lonely titular teenager (Summer H Howell) having a really rough go of it in high school. Regular Flanagan collaborator Samantha Sloyan plays her crazy mother. There will be blood. 

The Lowdown season 2 (FX)

Sterlin Harjo’s very funny neo-noir, one of last year’s most delightful new arrivals, is back for round two with a brilliant bit of casting news: Tommy Lee Jones plays the estranged, up-to-no-good father of ‘truthstorian’ and paperback snob Lee Raybon (Ethan Hawke), who will no doubt stumble into another thorny conspiracy full of colourful characters in his beloved city of Tulsa. 

VisionQuest (Disney+)

Billed as ‘the finalVisionof the groundbreaking trilogy’ (Marvel’s words), thisWandaVisionspin-off centres on the titular android (a returning Paul Bettany), who goes on the lam with a teen who might be his son. James Spader, Ruaridh Mollica, Todd Stashwick andYears And Years’ T’Nia Miller co-star in the miniseries, which was created byStar Trek: Picardveteran Terry Matalas. 

Crystal Lake (Peacock)

After being announced four years back and a showrunner shakeup, A24’s prequel toFriday the 13this finally set to hit our screens just in time for Halloween. Linda Cardellini, hot off her wonderful turn inDTF St. Louis, leads as Pamela Voorhees, withChucky’s Callum Vinson tackling her son (and future hockey-mask-wearer) Jason. 

Black Doves season 2 (Netflix)

Nearly two years after its mostlykiller first seasondropped,Black Doves, which stars a never-better Keira Knightley and an always ace Ben Whishaw, thankfully returns. This sleek, London-set series about spies for hire fromGiri/Haji’s Joe Barton is stylish, bloody, surprisingly deep, fun and generally a notch better and smarter than it probably needs to be.

Dig (Peacock)

Parks and Recreation’s Michael Schur and Amy Poehler swap Pawnee offices for an archaeological site in Greece for this Peacock comedy. The latter (a Golden Globe winner for acting and podcasting, of all things) leads the series as an excavator alongside a cast that includes Hugh Laurie, Geraldine Viswanathan, Fina Strazza and Antonia Thomas.   

Blade Runner 2099 (Prime Video)

Michelle Yeoh andEuphoria‘s Hunter Schafer leap into the sci-fi franchise, starring as a replicant and a human pretending to be one, respectively, in very late twenty-first century Los Angeles. Silka Luisa, who brought us Apple TV’sShining Girls, developed the miniseries, and Jonathan van Tulleken (Shōgun,Top Boy) helms its first two outings. 

Pride and Prejudice (Netflix)

Jane Austen’s ever-adored novel gets the Netflix treatment, withThe Crown‘s Emma Corrin tacking Elizabeth Bennet and Jack Lowden (who, per usual, is just great in the upcoming season ofSlow Horses) taking on Mr. Darcy.Everything I Know About Lovememoirist Dolly Alderton wrote the series, with Euros Lyn (Heartstopper,Happy Valley) directing.
