Zenless Zone Zero maintains its iron grip on the gacha genre and the gaming industry as a whole, but while most players are enjoying the fun at home on their computers or phones, one player has taken it to another level. As posted on Reddit, user MiamiUkrainian has successfully run the game on an older CRT.
The post is a short video showing the splash screen as well as some in-game footage of 6th Street and Combo Tracks, as well as seeing the game in action on an old Sony TV. The reaction to the video is pretty much what you’d expect, with a mix of jokes and genuine awe as this player recreates the retro experience for a very retro-style gacha.

As for why we should do this? Beyond the obvious cool factor, Zenless Zone Zero is packed with early 2000s tech and throwbacks to that era of pop culture and industry. The streets are filled with era-appropriate clothing, and the game’s exploration missions and Hollow Zero runs have players navigating a series of CRTs. As such, it’s a perfect game for retro hardware, even if the actual time it takes to run is certainly beyond the author’s comprehension.
You’ve got to hand it to a gamer who’s tried their hand at a large creative project, a gamer who’s gone far in terms of immersion in technical ability. Miami Ukrainians are one such player, and we can only hope that they will continue to play games on this setting in the future, even if it’s a bit cumbersome compared to modern alternatives.
