Sur Sur Sur! It’s official, The Sims fans: A movie based on the beloved Sims is in the works, to be directed by Barbie’s Margot Robbie and Loki’s Kate Herron.
Back in March, it was reported that following the success of Barbie, its producer and star Margot Robbie was setting her sights on the world of video games as one of her next projects, specifically a live-action version An adaptation of “Barbie.” Well, today EA itself confirmed the news that a movie is in the works, with Amazon MGM Studios helping to produce the project. As previously reported, Kate Herron, best known for directing the first season of Rocky, will direct The Sims movie and will co-write it with Briony Redman (The pair had previously written an episode of Doctor Who together). EA wrote in a blog post announcing the news: “It’s too early to share more information about the film, but we will be celebrating our 25th birthday next year, so stay tuned for updates.”

Robbie’s production company LuckyChap is working with Vertigo Entertainment to produce the project alongside EA, but as long as viewers don’t have to pay an extra £30 for the Movie Night expansion, there shouldn’t be any issues. Herron also seems like a perfect fit for a title like The Sims. While some fans didn’t like Loki’s relationship with his alternate-universe, gender-bent version of Sylvie, Herron’s direction made it all ridiculous, so I guess she could handle the strange world of The Sims.
In a statement provided to Variety, “The Sims” series manager Kate Gorman said: “You’re going to see a lot of The Sims universe come to life, and you’re going to see our players Many of the classic experiences gained in the game are brought to life in the movie.
Even more surprising to fans of the game is that EA isn’t actually developing The Sims 5, with Gorman telling Variety that previous The Sims games were replacements for previous games and that EA “won’t Develop replacements for previous versions”. Project; we’re only adding to our universe and you’ll find more ways to experience The Sims on different platforms, different ways to play, across media, and many great products in this universe.
When asked if this meant there wouldn’t be a Sims 5, she said, “The Sims 5 is not a replacement for The Sims 4. That means we will continue to bring a high-definition simulation experience, and What people can expect from The Sims 5.” Gorman noted that this will allow players to keep all of their creations, expansions, kits, etc., that many have spent money on The Sims 4 over its 10-year history.
Online, in turn, will be a big focus for The Sims 4 going forward, as part of the still-mysterious Project Rene, and EA has promised to release more information soon, saying you can sign up to test it out now. While The Sims’ future isn’t 100% clear, there’s at least a lot to look forward to right now.
