Xbox now lets you stream games you own without a console

Xbox is expanding its streaming options and will now allow players to stream some games they already own that aren’t included game pass on any device that supports it.

Since 2020, Xbox has allowed Game Pass Ultimate subscribers to stream a wide selection of games included in their subscription across a variety of devices and apps. For example, if you are a member, you can play Halo Master Chief Collection Stream to your phone via the cloud. However, if the game you want to stream and play isn’t included in the Game Pass catalog, you’re screwed. That changes today, albeit only for certain games.

On November 20, Xbox announced It will eventually let people stream some of the games they already own. This is a feature that fans have long requested, something Xbox acknowledged in a blog post announcing the news, and Xbox previously revealed that the feature would launch in October.

Currently, for some reason, you can’t stream any games you own and those purchased games aren’t yet available to stream on the Xbox console or the Xbox PC app. However, you can stream them on all other devices and browsers that support it. Currently only 50 games are supported, but that’s better than when it was zero. Xbox also said that next year you will be able to play these own games through the cloud on the console.

Just yesterday, Sony announced Players can stream some PS Plus games on PS Portal without a console. Xbox now lets you stream some of its own games on your phone without an Xbox. Indeed, the streaming wars have begun.
