Black Myth: Wukong There are a number of difficult bosses throughout its lengthy campaign, and they promise to thwart your progress at least a few times as you figure out what each one does and learn to fight them. However, one early game boss in particular trips up many new players, who find that even after multiple attempts, it still feels insurmountable. Yes, that Boss is the Wandering Ghoul.
Wandering ghouls will be encountered within the first hour Black Myth: Wukonglocated in a clearing within the forest, just outside the forest outer shrine. This massive boss deals massive damage for little in return – but that’s because you may not be ready to defeat the bad guy when you first encounter him. Here’s the scoop.
let’s get ready
Defeating a Wandering Ghoul is more about preparation and having the right skills, so it’s in your best interest not to fight this boss the first time you encounter it. Instead, let’s delete something.
- First, defeat Guangzhi, another optional boss in the forest, to obtain your first transformation skill, Crimson Tide. This transformation allows you to become Guangzhi and deal some fire damage, while also temporarily giving you new health. This is crucial to your survival against wandering wights.
- Next, continue this chapter as usual until you reach the bamboo forest section. use This handy XP grinding spot in Snake Path Shrine Level up until you have at least reached Strong Constitution in the Survival tree and purchased two levels of collision in the Fixed tree. This will give you more health and allow you to deal more damage to immobilized enemies.
- Finally, make sure you upgrade your armor to the Pilgrim Set at any shrine to give yourself more defense.
Let’s kick his ass
When you’re ready, return to the temple outside the forest, go to the Wandering Wight and prepare to throw.

Just out of the gate, cast Hold on him, then hit him as hard as you can with combos. When the root is broken, start watching for retaliatory attacks and keep your distance, as most of his attacks have enough range that a single attack can wipe out half of your health if not dodged in time.
Keep your distance until he performs one of his combos. When he’s finished, rush in and damage him until he starts preparing for another attack, then pull back far enough again so that his massive attack and stomp can’t reach you.
The main problem in this fight is the energy beam he fires at you. You can prepare for this by watching when he starts to charge up, then hiding behind him (ideally) or choosing your moment to dodge the beam. Getting hit by this attack can be devastating and, in many cases, ruin your chances of having enough health to defeat the boss, so knowing how to avoid it is a key component to success.
When he’s at about 25% health, use your Crimson Tide to transform and close the gap. Use your most powerful attack to defeat him during the transformation process until it finally runs out. If he’s still standing, you should only have one health point to slash and kill him, so proceed with caution and keep the momentum going.
Defeating him will earn you some Will and Materials, as well as Cat’s Eye Antiques and Wandering Souls.
Let us equip him with spirit
If you follow our advice and continue to the bamboo forest, and then face the wandering soul, you should have met a guy who can let your gourd absorb spiritual energy and equip it with spiritual energy. The Soul of the Wandering Ghoul is a good choice early in the game, as it passively buffs your defense while also giving you a head-bashing summon that deals massive damage to enemies.
Now that you’ve defeated the Wandering Wight and won his soul, continue reading the first chapter, confident that with a little grind, practice, and a dose of confidence, nothing is insurmountable.
