MagicCon attendees got their first look at some of the new products and collaborations coming to Magic: The Gathering, and it’s already confirmed that 2025 will be a promising year. One of the first major releases is the upcoming Magic Beyond Universe set, which features characters, monsters, and summons from the Final Fantasy series. The set’s art will be produced jointly by the Magic and Square Enix teams, making it the largest collection of Final Fantasy art in any game. The set is expected to be released on June 13, 2025, and will have a playable digital component Magic: The Gathering Arena. Check out the trailer below:
Zakeel Gordon, Product Architect at Wizards of the Coast, said of the collaboration: “This collaboration is about more than just cards. It’s about celebrating decades of iconic characters from one of the most beloved franchises in gaming history, Legendary stories and unforgettable moments Final Fantasy fans will experience these characters in a whole new way – through strategic depth and storytelling. Magic: The Gathering”.
Next up is a deep dive into the upcoming Foundations series, which releases on November 15th. Wizards reports on several additional releases set to launch in the new year. In January, Innistrad’s beloved gothic setting will be remastered with a frame and movie poster card. In February, fans can experience the new Aetherdrift series, which pits players in a high-stakes deathmatch across three different planes to earn and claim the coveted Aetherspark Trophy. In April, players will have the opportunity to return to the world of Tarkir in Tarkir: Dragonstorm, where the focus of the game will shift to factions and clans, and the emergence of dragons through Dragonstorm.
From there, fans will watch the Final Fantasy collaboration in June, and then Edge of Eternity in August, a science-fantasy adventure set in the Sothra system. Wizards of the Coast also revealed that it will finally team up with Marvel for its multi-year collaboration Beyond the Universe, using the world of Spider-Man in a booster pack.
