Dead RisingMain character Frank West has undergone major changes, including a new model, face and voice actor. So what is this all about?
On June 26, Capcom revealed A flashy big-budget remake Dead Rising. The game was rebuilt using the RE engine, with monster hunter and Resident Evil Village. therefore, Dead Rising Deluxe Edition Remastered version It looks incredible, with impressive lighting and high-resolution textures. But there’s one change that surprised many: Frank West, the game’s zombie-killing photographer protagonist, looks much older and grumpier.
in new interview inverse, DRDRArt director Satoshi Takamatsu explains why Frank West looks bigger, older, and maybe even a little meaner in the newly released remake. According to Takamatsu, they “deconstructed and restructured” the character’s visual makeup to better emphasize his “life-related frustrations.”
Takamatsu said that as a developer on the original game, he loved its look and West’s original design. Initially, the plan was to simply upgrade and improve the character’s original model. But as they moved toward a “more realistic” style, things changed.
“As we rebuilt the game and worked hard to create a ‘more realistic’ visual art style, the team felt we had reached an impasse on the concept of Frank, an everyday American ‘tough guy’ who was about to turn 40 and ‘a president’ are journalists looking for opportunities to change their lives.
Therefore, the team decided to “retool” his visuals using the “average Joe” concept as the basis for a new version of Frank West.
“We deconstructed and reassembled Frank’s various aesthetics over the years,” Takamatsu said. “Then we injected some masculinity into it to better express his toughness and life-related frustrations, and rebuilt his character design based on that. In terms of ‘muscle physique,’ we went with a stronger Body shape, like someone who trained as an American football player in school, bowled occasionally on the weekends, and enjoyed beer and bacon cheeseburgers.
The art director also explained that they gave Frank West more wrinkles to create more “lively facial expressions,” but admitted the team may have gone a little “overboard.”
“He had some changes from the original game, but I think his design fits perfectly Dead Rising Deluxe Remastered Edition,” Takamatsu added.
I have to agree. When I first saw the trailer, I wasn’t too happy with the new Frank, but after playing the remaster, I can see how this new version better fits into a more realistic world DRDR. Still, Capcom realizes that some people won’t move on. So they also made the OG model a trim option.
