If you have been paying attention to various Marvel content tv show and Movie over the past few years, then you may have recognized everyone from the past few years Thunder* trailer. The upcoming MCU movie brings together a host of returning B-level characters from the past, led by Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova. But one character you may not recognize is the mysterious Bob, who is making his film debut. Thunder*. So, who is that guy?
Played by Bob Defender: MaverickLewis Pullman appears in several shots in the trailer, immediately establishing that he is a comic book character sentinel. Created in 2000 Created by Paul Jenkins and Jae Lee, Sentry is essentially Marvel’s take on superman. He is an indestructible being with abilities ranging from super speed to super strength, flight, extra senses and many other superpowers. If you know who Superman is, you already know the basics of the Sentinels. But the character’s alter ego is Robert Reynolds (or Bob!), and his story isn’t just a Man of Steel analogue.
The Sentinels’ history stretches back into Marvel’s past, predating the Sentinels’ first appearance Fantastic Four. Sentry appeared on the scene as a hero and quickly became friends with big names like FF, Avengers, Spider-Man, and more. Unlike Superman, whose powers stem from his alien heritage and Earth’s yellow sun, the Sentry’s powers (like many Marvel characters) were derived from a failed attempt to recreate the creation of Captain America of super soldier serum. During his time as a hero, Sentinel often fought against his nemesis the Void, until he realized that the only way to defeat his nemesis was to stop using his powers. This included Sentinel erasing any memory of Sentinel from the minds of everyone in the universe, including himself.
This is where the original 2000 series begins, with ordinary Bob Reynolds reminiscing about his past life as a hero, and the universal memory wipe explaining why, in the lore of the comic book world, the Sentinels had never been before this date appeared, despite a long history with Earth’s other greatest heroes. One problem with this story, however, is the exact nature of the void. For a while, it was believed that the Void was a supervillain hell-bent on destroying the Sentinels, but as time went on, it was revealed that – gasp!
That’s the basic gist of Sentinel’s entire deal, but a lot of it may not be entirely relevant to his appearance in Sentinels. Thunder*. As we saw in the trailer, Bob appears to be locked away in some sort of secret government facility, Thunder* Breaking in, not knowing what’s inside. We later see Bob apparently unhurt after being attacked by government soldiers, although his clothes are torn by bullet holes. We also see the Sentinel’s iconic S symbol in the trailer, which all but confirms that Bob, played by Lewis Pullman, is the Sentinel.
taking into account Thunder* Looks like it’s from Marvel suicide squad On top of that – a boring but predictable take on the character – I bet Bob is essentially a living super weapon, played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus as the MacGuffin in this movie Valentina Allegra de Fontaine will play the MacGuffin. Naturally, Thunder* develops a conscience over the course of the movie and joins forces with Bob to fight the woman who brought them together in the first place. The Sentinels also eventually joined the Dark Avengers in the comics, if Run on the Stars theory Thunder* Name your team and chances are the team will look like this. If anything, it’s great to see Louis Pullman’s take on the character, and to finally see Florence Pugh take the lead in a Marvel project. Thunder* It is scheduled to be released on May 2, 2025.
