What is a pixel?
Pixels is about fun social activities, casual gaming, and asset collection. The game is set in a stylized 16-bit open world where players can engage in various activities such as farming, exploring, and completing quests.
Players can also purchase farmland, allowing them to design an island for other players to explore, grow crops and craft resources. Landowners will receive a share of the crops grown on their land, incentivizing players to develop lands that are both beautiful and efficient, with available farmland and crafting options.
All actions in the game (except movement) require the player to expend energy, which recharges over time or can be restored using in-game food, the in-game sauna, or participating in a limited-time energy party.
Raw resources can be crafted into other items, such as by cooking food, brewing beer, or crafting items such as furniture and tools, some of which require specific blueprints or recipes obtained through games or events.
By designing an in-game avatar or importing an NFT from the top collection as an avatar, players can also develop character skills, interact and socialize with others, with the goal of creating a thriving virtual community.
How pixels work
One of the key features of Pixels is that it costs nothing to get started. New players can start their farm on free land called spots to start generating resources. These resources can be sold for “coins,” which are the primary currency in the game and are used to purchase initial upgrades for blobs, lower-level crafting kits, and basic resources.
Players can also earn coins by completing tasks, participating in events, and achieving in-game milestones.
There is also a premium in-game currency called $PIXEL, which is the native token of Pixels. It can be purchased directly through exchanges, currently trading at $0.23, or earned by completing missions – supporting the earn-as-you-play nature of the game.
While the $PIXEL token is not strictly necessary to progress in the game, it is intended to enhance the gaming experience. Players spend $PIXEL to purchase items faster and gain upgrades and cosmetic enhancements outside of core gameplay.
$PIXEL can also be used to purchase Pixel VIP, an exclusive membership level that offers a wealth of benefits, such as additional opportunities to earn more $PIXEL, reduced in-game marketplace fees, and more. The current $PIXEL fee for Pixel VIP is $10/month.

Pixels began development in November 2021 and integrated its first series of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) in the same month. Feature updates such as farming, farmland, and quests will soon follow, rolling out within the first few months of 2022.
Chapter 1, released in late 2022, introduces a host of new elements, including new characters, missions, improved UI, and extensive changes to game mechanics.

Chapter 2 is released in June 2024, with more major updates. New skills have been added, the market has been overhauled, and new shops enhance game mechanics. New avatar system, visual updates for NPCs added among improvements.
The game’s rapid evolution continues to follow three core pillars: prioritizing fun, embracing interoperability, and progressively decentralizing control. The ultimate goal is to make the game more decentralized, giving players a greater say in the direction and governance of the game.
