If you love the “It” movies as much as I do, then you’re probably as excited as I am about the upcoming “Welcome to Derry” series, which is one of the most anticipated new shows to come – at least for horror fans That’s it.
Good scripted horror TV series are sometimes hard to find, and even when we do get a good one, they usually don’t last as long as we’d like.
Some long-running horror TV series come to mind: Supernatural, Walking Dead, and American Horror Story.
But over the years, they seemed to lose their early-season punch and almost became a mockery of themselves.
Sometimes short films are sweet, but sometimes shows end prematurely, like the amazing Wicked on Paramount+, leaving fans disappointed.
Judging from everything we know about Welcome to Derry so far, it probably won’t be a long-running series, and that’s okay. There is no need for this. We certainly don’t want the show to be popular.
But who knows? There are many stories told about the haunted town of Derry, Maine.
what welcome to delhi is about
“Welcome to Derry” is a prequel to the “It” film series, which includes “It” (2017) and “It: Chapter 2” (2019). The film is adapted from Stephen King’s 1986 horror novel of the same name and is divided into two parts.
Set in the fictional town of Derry, Maine, Welcome to Derry expands on the Derry universe created by King and delves into the origins of Pennywise the Clown, leading up to the events of the first film.
Pennywise is a vicious clown who appears every 27 years. He loved to terrorize the residents of Derry, especially the children.
And by intimidation, I mean he has a bloodthirsty “taste” for them. He also has a soft spot for red balloons.
It’s kind of like the scary Jaws theme song.
Whenever you hear the sound of “da-dum,” whether you see it or not, you know the man-eating shark from hell is nearby.
Red balloons give you the same vibe.
Who is behind Welcome to Delhi?
Even more exciting is that Welcome to Derry is produced by Andy and Barbara Muschietti, the brother-sister duo behind the It films group of people.
What this means, and why it’s exciting, is that the feel of the series will remain consistent with the feel of the movies.
Both serve as executive producers on the series.
Andy Muschietti directed both films and is set to write and direct some episodes of the series.
Jason Fuchs, a writer on the 2017 Wonder Woman movie and a co-producer on Wonder Woman: Chapter 2, developed the series with Muschiettis.
He also serves as executive producer and showrunner on Welcome to Derry, with Brad Caleb Kane serving as co-showrunner.
When the series was announced in 2022, Stephen King wasn’t shy about expressing his happiness or displeasure with the adaptation of his novel, saying this about Welcome to Derry via a press release:
“I’m delighted that the story of Derry, Maine’s most haunted city, continues, and I’m delighted that Andy Muschietti will be overseeing these spooky celebrations with a brain trust that includes his talented sister Barbara .There are red balloons all around!
The Muschiettis added:
“As teenagers, we took turns reading chapters of Stephen King’s It until the thick paperback fell to shreds.
“This is an epic story with so much more to it than we could ever explore in an It movie. We can’t wait to share the depth of Steve’s novel, including its heart, humor, humanity and horror .
Who is the cast of Welcome to Derry?
The most exciting part about Welcome to Derry is that Bill Skarsgård will be reprising his role as the evil clown Pennywise.
After the show was first announced, there were hints that Skarsgård would not be appearing in Welcome to Derry .
Luckily for all of us, he joined the show as both an actor and an executive producer.
If a new actor were to play the role of the villainous Pennywise, it certainly wouldn’t have the same feel as in the movie.
Back in 1990, legendary actor Tim Curry played Pennywise in the two-part ABC miniseries “Stephen King’s It.”
Corey played a mean Pennywise, who was pretty scary at the time, but there’s only so much you can do on network TV before the censors come after you.
Skarsgård’s interpretation of Pennywise takes the character to a whole new level.
Literally, the stuff of nightmares.
Other cast members for Welcome to Derry have been confirmed, but their roles have yet to be announced, including:
- Chris Chalk (Perry Mason, Gotham)
- Madeleine Stowe (12 Monkeys)
- Taylor Paige (Zola)
- Jovan Adepo (3 Body Matters, Fences)
- Stephen Ryder (“Daredevil,” “Basic Instinct”)
- James Remar (Magnum PI, “Dragon”)
- Outerbridge (“The Umbrella Academy,” “Sullivan’s Crossing”)
- Tanner’s Dash (For All Mankind)
- Kimberly Guerrero (Station 19)
- Chad Locke (played by Joe Pickett)
- Alexandra Fox (Hatfield & McCoys)
- Angeline Morningstar (Outer Range, Westworld)
- BJ Harrison (Family Law)
- Joshua Ojik (Swarm)
- Tosh Collins (Echo)
- Thomas Mitchell (Aircraft Survey)
- Sean Marriott (Porter)
Interestingly, Adepo played Larry Underwood in the 2020 Starz miniseries The Stand, which was adapted from the 1978 Stephen King novel of the same name.
When does Welcome to Delhi premiere?
It was announced in March 2022 that the “It” prequel series would be fully developed, with a premiere date set for 2024.
However, although the film began filming in Port Hope, Ontario, Canada in 2023, production was stalled that same year due to a writers’ strike.
The good news is that the show resumed filming in early 2024, which lasted 237 days, and was completed in early August.
How many episodes does Welcome to Delhi have?
Currently, the “Welcome to Derry” prequel plan has nine episodes, telling the story of the haunted town of Derry and Pennywise.
But the most interesting thing about Fox’s statement above is his reference to “this season.”
Does this mean we might get more than one nine-episode season?
As mentioned before, there’s a lot to explore about Derry in the prequels before the events in It and It: Chapter 2, and it’s worth many years.
As long as “Welcome to Derry” doesn’t become overly popular, I’m fine with it!
But this is pure speculation. We’ll have to wait and see how this all plays out.
WHERE TO WATCH Welcome to Delhi

Is there a trailer for Welcome to Delhi?

Shortly after announcing that filming on Welcome to Derry had wrapped, HBO released a super short trailer for the show, and it’s hot!
Bloody, terrifying, and maybe a young Pennywise at the end?
We didn’t see much, but it was enough to get your adrenaline pumping!
