Simone Biles did what she does best: she won. Biles, the undisputed GOAT of women’s gymnastics, broke her own floor exercise gold medal in the all-around competition at the 2024 Paris Olympics on Thursday. The arena and the internet immediately erupted in cheers.
After Biles made some mistakes on the uneven bars, the match was much tighter than most expected. However, Biles’ overall performance in the other three events – vault, balance beam and floor exercise – was too strong. This is her sixth career Olympic gold medal.

Her last Olympic experience was difficult. She had to withdraw from most competitions at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics while dealing with “Zigma,” a dangerous phenomenon in which gymnasts experience a mental block during regular training. A return to glory at the 2024 Olympics marks a remarkable return. With Biles also winning gold at the 2016 Rio Olympics, Thursday’s victory marked the first woman in decades to win two Olympic all-around titles, dating back to the 1960s.
It’s a big day for Biles, and it confirms what we already knew: She’s the best person ever to do this.
