Yesterday I reported on a story about a potential sequel or spiritual sequel to L.A. Noire, a 2011 crime thriller set in the 1940s published by Rockstar.

Here’s what happened: An Australian musician made several posts on Instagram showing off the recording process for what she described as a new game called Sowden House “from the creators of LA Noire.” The name is important because it references the infamous Black Dahlia murder, which figures prominently in L.A. Noir . However, the posts have since been deleted, leaving fans speculating about the nature of the project. Some believe it could be a proper sequel, while others believe it will be a spiritual follow-up to the former L.A. Noire developer.

This brings us to the present. Video Game Deluxe (formerly Team Bondi, the studio behind L.A. Noire) released a statement on LinkedIn clarifying what the musician posted.

“We are developing the project exclusively for Rockstar,” Video Game Deluxe said. “We commissioned local composer Freyja Garbett to compose some music for a VR project that we had done years ago on the sidelines of a project. It was based on the case of L.A. Noire, which didn’t work out but was more of a technology demonstration. We didn’t know if this would ever happen, but we decided to complete the score commission to support local composers.

Of course, Video Game Deluxe could be working on a true L.A. Noir sequel, but that seems unlikely since Rockstar hasn’t shown much interest in it over the years.
