Former President Donald Trump’s running mate J.D. Vance is running to show he’s not a boring weirdo with zero charisma. It didn’t go well.
last week, Donald Trump announces he has chosen Ohio Senator J.D. Vance as his vice presidential candidate. Vance has a reputation for being scary.and also wrote a best-selling memoir——Hillbilly Elegy— which was adapted into an unforgettable Netflix film starring Amy Adams and Glenn Close. Oh, and he once called Trump “Moral catastrophe” and possibly “America’s Hitler”. Obviously, Trump now regrets choosing this boring guy It was recently announced that Joe Biden is withdrawing from the 2024 race, and Kamala is likely to replace him.
Anyway, Vance is on the campaign trail, attending rallies, and trying to convince people that he’s a real normal guy drinking a bottle or even two (!) of Diet Mountain Dew, even though those damn Democrats and liberals may Think it’s racist…or something.
Speaking at a rally in Middletown, Ohio, on Monday, Vance said:
“That’s the weirdest thing to me. Democrats say they believe…well, they say anything they do is racist.
Then he paused for a moment, the silence in the auditorium hard to ignore. Perhaps realizing that the call had not landed, he continued and quickly added:
“I had a Diet Mountain Dew yesterday. Today, I’m sure they’ll call it racist, too, but…”
He paused again, longer this time. In the background, you may be able to hear two people laughing. The visible audience behind Vance mostly showed no reaction or gave him a quick, nervous smile. At this point, I suggested that Vance abort and move on. But he dug his grave deeper.
“That’s good,” Vance added. This got some more laughs, but mostly because at this point the audience seemed to realize, oh hey, this guy is trying to be funny. Vance commits the biggest no-no when it comes to telling jokes: He laughs too hard at his own bad jokes. Then, as if sticking to the script, with a line that slayed the audience and made them laugh, Vance pointed out to the confused crowd: “I love you.”
In the next few seconds, a man clapped loudly, and Vance laughed even harder. Meanwhile, somewhere in the world, I IImagine Trump wondering why He let his idiot sons convince him to choose this guy.
