This article will contain spoilers for Until Dawn and the upcoming Until Dawn remake. You have been warned.
FireSprite is working on a sequel to the narrative-driven horror game, according to an insider and the latest news on the upcoming Until Dawn remake.
This news story begins with the remake of Until Dawn, a game developed by the folks at Ballistic Moon, which itself had developers from Supermassive on the original game. Even though the remaster is still a few hours away from release, people are getting hold of the game early and working hard to spoil the storyline.
The game’s ending has been heavily modified and added to, as shown in footage taken by people who’ve already completed the remake. The new ending adds a new scene for Josh, who in the original game either died or was discovered transformed into a Wendigo. However, the new version of the ending in the remake shows that he somehow survived the encounter. As the camera moves to Josh, Dr. Hill’s voiceover talks about finding redemption, and at the last second, we see what looks like a flashlight on Josh, hinting that he will be rescued.
The next change comes in the end credits, where Sam is living in Los Angeles years later. Her bedside table was filled with pill bottles and she seemed to be hallucinating. She saw blood trickling down her arm but she couldn’t stop it. Suddenly, a strange voice called her name, making Sam jump.
These two new scenes seem to strongly hint that Ballistic Moon is gearing up for a sequel, which is no surprise when you consider that there’s also an official Until Dawn movie on the way.
According to insider Shpeshal_Nick, a sequel is exactly what’s happening. But surprisingly, he credits FireSprite with making it, not Ballistic Moon.
There have been some reports in the past supporting Nick’s claims. For example, earlier this year, former IGN reporter and current podcaster Colin Moriarty shared some details about a game FireSprite is working on, codenamed Hearbreak. Colin went on to say that he was told that the game would be set on an island and have a female (Sam?) protagonist.
Another report in 2022 claimed that FireSprite was developing a “AAA horror game” in Unreal Engine 5. , legends, etc., within pre-established IPs.
When everything is put together, it creates a compelling idea: FireSprite has been developing a new Until Dawn game, while Ballistic Moon is responsible for the remake.
Let’s face it, if both the remake and the movie did well, it would be weird for Sony not to capitalize and make a follow-up.
