Until the end of last month, “Assassin’s Creed: Shadows” was originally scheduled to be released in November this year. Ubisoft then made a surprise announcement that the game had been delayed until early next year. But according to a new report, this comes as no surprise to Ubisoft Quebec, the studio behind Shadows. Developers have reportedly been pushing for a delay for months.
Ubisoft’s announcement states that Shadows’ new release date was implemented to give the developer more time to polish the gameplay, and because the company hopes to incorporate lessons learned from the disappointing launch of Star Wars: Outlaws —— According to reports, the game’s sales are only around 1. Inside Gaming’s report states that both of these reasons are valid, but adds further context: “[Assassin’s Creed Shadow] It has not yet reached the stage where it needs to be released.
Adjustments still need to be made to fix remaining bugs. The larger issue, however, clearly revolves around the desire to support the story’s historical accuracy. One of the reasons for these 11th-hour changes was that “historical experts joined the project much later than usual for a project of this size.”
Ubisoft’s latest move, which at least offers a glimmer of hope, is the decision to reverse the company’s stance on releasing new games on consoles and Steam on day one. This is apparently a change that some Ubisoft employees have been asking for frequently.
“Assassin’s Creed: Shadows” will be available on consoles and PC on February 14, 2025.
