Trezzo’s history
Trezor was founded by Marek “Slush” Palatinus and Pavol “Stick” Rusnák. The concept of hardware wallets came into being after Palatinus suffered a significant Bitcoin ($BTC) loss due to an online attack in 2011. This incident gave rise to the Trezor Model One, which was officially launched on July 29, 2014.
“We wanted to make a few hardware wallets for our friends. But soon we realized we found a big gap in the market. Now we are one of the most trusted wallets in the world.
The initial prototype of the Trezor Model One was built using a Raspberry Pi and had a display, two buttons, and a USB port. Despite uncertainty about market demand, the Trezor Model One quickly sold out, demonstrating the huge demand for secure storage solutions within the cryptocurrency community.
Due to strong demand, an initial pre-order campaign of 1,000 devices quickly expanded to 30,000 units, allowing Trezor to remain independent without venture capital.
Looking to the future
Trezor plans to continue focusing on security and innovation in the cryptocurrency industry.
“Whatever the future holds, we will continue to do what we do best – protect and innovate the entire crypto industry, while remaining open to everything we do,” said Trezor co-founder Pavol “Stick” Rusnák.
The company’s independent and open source approach is critical to maintaining high security standards and transparency.
