Thanks to the release of a ton of new intel, we now know a lot more about Black Ops 6: Zombies than we expected at this point in the year. Co-op appears to be an overhaul of many of the underlying systems, but it also keeps some classic features intact.
Easter egg hunts; essentially hidden missions that players must figure out how to complete on their own, have been a Zombies staple for years. However, their sluggish nature prevents them from being used by most casual players.
While past iterations of Zombies have tried different ideas in an attempt to bring new players into this part of the game, with varying degrees of success, Black Ops 6 may have a best-of-both-worlds solution.

Easter eggs are apparently returning in Black Ops 6’s Zombies mode. There will also be a Guided Mode designed for new players, but the biggest change is that Guided Mode for each map will not be available at launch, but will come later in the season.
This means that everyone has no idea how to figure out the solutions to these quests, which allows the community to work together to find discoveries for both main quests and side quests.
Guide mode is fun in its own right, offering “focused guidance” through the main missions, with rounds limited to certain stages to make it easier to progress. However, side quests and Easter eggs will be disabled in Guided Mode, making it the best way to experience the narrative.
As usual, you’ll earn thematic rewards for completing the map’s main missions, as well as additional rewards for completing missions outside of Guided Mode. This also includes a limited-time calling card that performs the same action before launching boot mode.
In addition to these new additions and all the new quality-of-life features we’ve covered previously, Black Ops 6: Zombies brings back a ton of familiar mechanics and turn-based systems. Pack-a-Punch, Mystery Boxes, and various Coke Bonus machines are back – as are GobbleGums.
It also retains several of the mechanics introduced in Black Ops Cold War’s Zombies mode, such as Essence and Salvage for both main currencies, Exfil and the ability to earn rewards when things get overwhelming, workbenches, and more.
At launch, Zombies will include two turn-based maps. As revealed in the narrative trailer, the first story takes place on Terminal Island, while the other takes place in a small town in West Virginia called Liberty Falls. While this week’s blog post focuses entirely on Terminus, we’ll have to wait for Call of Duty: Next later this month to learn about Liberty Falls.
Sadly, Zombies content won’t be part of the upcoming Black Ops 6 beta, but it’s not far away from release. The full game will be released on October 25th for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
