A24 releases its first trailer Sebastian Stanupcoming movies a different personDescribed as “a dazzling black comedy”.
The film centers on Edward, an aspiring actor who suffers from the genetic disease neurofibromatosis, which causes tumors to grow on the skin and bones.
Edward eventually underwent facial reconstruction surgery, after which his new look was praised by colleagues and others. But then he met Oswald (Adam Pearson), an actor who plays him in a drama based on his life.
Edward became obsessed with Oswald because Oswald looked exactly like him before the surgery.
Pearson is a real-life actor who has neurofibromatosis and has starred in films including under the skin and Lifelong bondage.
The film’s synopsis reads: “Aspiring actor Edward undergoes radical medical surgery to completely change his appearance. But his new dream face soon turns into a nightmare as he becomes obsessed with regaining what he has lost.
The writer and director of this film is Aaron Sheinberg Stan won the Berlin Film Festival Best Actor Award for his performance in the film.
Stan said of the film: “I interacted with people, and it was really fun. It was a little scary to see how limited the interaction was between two extremes: not addressing it or overcompensating.
“The only people who are most honest are the children. I had an interaction with a little girl where her mom was trying to do the right thing, but in doing the right thing, she was actually preventing the girl from simply having the experience.
“She’s brave, and that’s kids, right? They just want to know – they don’t judge. That was a lesson to me.
The movie is scheduled to be released on September 20.
