Blade Runner 2099 is set to be Amazon’s next big sci-fi hit in television, and its cast has been attracting fans for quite some time. Things could get even better, though, with Tom Burke (Furiosa) and Maurizio Lombardi (Ripley) joining the ongoing shoot.
Deadline shared the news and said there are no details on the character the actor will play. But that doesn’t stop Hideo Kojima from being super excited about the show.

As expected, the legendary video game creator keeps reminding us of his love for Blade Runner and says he’s ready for Blade Runner 2099 because he’s not one to automatically think of the famous series Fans that the next title will be terrible. Now, Hunter Schafer is leading the orchestra (along with Michelle Yeoh) and Burke is relegated to a minor role? He probably won’t shut up about it when it finally releases on Prime Video.
Anyone who’s been active on X/Twitter or IG over the past year or so knows that Hideo Kojima has always been fascinated by up-and-coming actors. Typically, a Zoom/Skype call follows, and then everyone in the legend is scanned for inclusion in future games. It’s a joke now. Hunter Schafer in particular seems to be one of his new muses, and the only thing he’s been tweeting about so much lately is the release of “Furiosa.”
Of course, we all know that he and George Miller have been good friends for a while, but what’s even more remarkable is that he spent a considerable amount of time in that movie gushing about Tom Burke (banned Guard Jack) and Charlie Fraser (Mary Jabassa). In fact, he may well have scanned the latter. To be honest, good for him. It’s so funny and endearing to see his deepest crushes unfold in real time on social media.
I’m now ready to see him raving about Blade Runner 2099 the minute the marketing drops drop, but the bigger question is: How long will it take for him to get Burke on board for his upcoming game?
Silka Luisa is showrunner on Blade Runner 2099 and serves as executive producer alongside Ridley Scott. Production has begun in Prague and will later move to Barcelona. We haven’t received a potential release window yet, but it will likely come to Prime Video in late 2025.
