Todd McFarlane Being a guest at Wondercon last weekend, I hope to have the opportunity to ask him about rumors that McFarlane Toys is interested in buying Diamond Comics. By chance, we saw him standing outside our media room and he stopped very generously to chat for a few minutes. You can watch the video here.
But for those who like to read, McFarlane confirms that they are indeed interested in “some side works.”
“My lawyers, accountants and stuff are negotiating with them, ‘Hey, how does this work?’ Can we get the information so we can have an educated bid?” McFarlane told me. “The works on the side are distributed. Like man, does that make sense? Because Steve Geppi built this very grand distribution system, but it requires quantity. But with Marvel disappearing, then DC disappearing, then the image disappears, and then it disappears.
McFarlane did make a bid for “several things” because he thought there would be multiple bidders, but in the end, “a company came in and just said they would come up with one of the big things anyway.
McFarlane didn’t do specifics, but one would think that the thing he was interested in was the diamond-choice toy.
McFarlane Toys is one of Diamond’s largest creditors – $1.729 million, according to court documents. I asked him how this affected his business, but he chose to look at the big picture.
“no Just for me, but I think there are obviously hundreds of supplies [to Diamond.] That is unknown. So, this is a big problem, and it is unknown. I think in the comic book distribution between the Romantic Mansion and the Moon, we can say with confidence that the comics are being released safely and well. but There’s everything else in the second half of the diamond catalog, whether it’s a T-shirt – we call it Tchotchke Business. That is unknown. To what extent would someone come in and pick it up? In this case, if it is possible that the big buyer that the court may have been approved by the court, we will see if they think the business is worth going there. If I had to make an educated guess that they would want to keep something that was already solid there, and then take what they’ve done and integrate it into and try to expand it. If you are buying anything, it must be additive.
