Don’t panic, over the garden wall fans, but a new short film is coming soon to celebrate the series’ tenth anniversary.
It’s impressive that even 10 years later, people are still talking about a 10-episode miniseries, each of which is only about 11 minutes long. Still, there’s no denying that Over the Garden Wall has become a staple of the fall season, with many fans re-watching the show every year. A second season will never happen (although creator Patrick McHale does have ideas for a spiritual successor), but after so many years of only being able to watch the original, there will finally be something new to watch. Yesterday, Cartoon Network’s official Twitter account shared that a new short film is coming soon, and Wallace and Gromit fans will be excited to hear that it’s being produced in collaboration with Aardman.

“Back to the Unknown,” Cartoon Network tweeted. “Our Over the Garden Wall anniversary gift – a two-minute stop-motion animated short produced in collaboration with Patrick McHale and Aardman. Will be available on November 3 at YouTube/ Launched on social.” Accompanied by a promotional image, the protagonists Vert and Greg are dressed in their signature costumes and a very sweet-looking puppet, almost in a Pinocchio-like style. As mentioned in the tweet, it’s only two minutes long, so don’t act super disappointed when it arrives next month, just be thankful you got something.

Unless the character doesn’t speak in the short, I can only assume Lord of the Rings actor Elijah Wood will reprise his voice as Walt, although considering Greg’s voice Colin Dean was an actual child at the time of recording, they might Another child will be found to take his place.
November 3rd was also the original air date for Over the Garden Wall, which tells the story of the aforementioned half-brothers as they travel through an unfamiliar forest and encounter all kinds of strange people.
