My “only in Toronto” moments were: Everyone makes pirate sounds during the pirate warning! I was really shocked when I first heard it, but now I’m looking forward to it because I know it means I’ll be watching a movie with an amazing, engaged audience.
My “Canadians are so nice” moment is…
The first time I came to Toronto, there was someone pushing a cart full of drink cans [across the street] The car lost control and they rolled everywhere – and the whole street ran out to help pick them up. Although it was a small thing, this collective kindness has stayed with me. I’m not sure that would happen in London.
A must visit place when I’m in Toronto is…
shopping mall! I have a weakness for bath and body work, but they always leak out in my trunk on the way home.
The places I avoid during the holidays are…
Nowhere to Go – I love the crowds and lively atmosphere downtown during TIFF.
My favorite Canadian director/talent is…
Mary Harlan—— american psychopath is an iconic adaptation and she’s been in some dark genre TV shows that I love the following. Not sure what this means to me, but I love a bit of horror!
The most Canadian thing about Toronto is…
The festivalgoers and volunteers were very friendly. This is a cliche for a reason. There is a real sense of community at this festival and you feel like everyone is here because of their love of film.
The one thing I never travel without (besides my phone) is…
Everything you need to make a strong cup of tea – I brought a kettle, tea bags and my own cup.
Toronto’s biggest celebrity encounters…
And for –Barbie Margot Robbie made time to talk to everyone during the buyer screening.
Rian Gosling or Rian Reynolds?
Gosling?
In Toronto, you should always…
Wrap a tissue! Many tearjerkers tug at the heartstrings and I usually deftly wipe away tears at at least one screening.
In Toronto, you should never…
There’s no need to pack when you go out, just like when you go hiking—you can experience four seasons in one day, and I always make sure to bring comfortable shoes, sunglasses, an umbrella, and a raincoat.
