The Toy Industry Europe (TIE) has announced the winners of its fifth Action for Change Awards. These European awards recognize toy companies for their outstanding efforts to improve the well-being of children and prepare the next generation for a better future.
This year we saw some of the most impressive initiatives and toys in the history of the awards. While these decisions are difficult, it’s encouraging to see the toy industry working to shape a more inclusive, sustainable and thoughtful future for children. Congratulations to all winners!
Diversity & Inclusion Category
Initiatives and toys that challenge outdated “norms” of social status, ability, gender, race or religion.
- Gold Award: The LEGO Group is reimagining its popular Friends universe with a greater emphasis on inclusivity and representation.
- silver medal: mini park In recognition of its Play Together programme, which creates spaces for inclusion and play for children of all abilities and backgrounds.
- Bronze Award: Mattel has updated its games portfolio to ensure children who have difficulty distinguishing colors can easily get started.
life skills category
Find activities and toys that help kids prepare for the world of tomorrow.
- Gold Award: LeapFrog/VTech Their advanced binoculars encourage children to explore and connect with nature outdoors and indoors.
- silver medal: SVOORA uses its innovative approach to help young children develop reading and storytelling skills.
- Bronze Award: Fischertechnik helps prepare children for the 21st century through hands-on STEM learning.
Sustainable Development Category
Measures and toys designed to have an overall positive impact on the environment.
- Gold Award: PlanToys recognizes its Wave Stacker, which is made from recycled rubber wood, as well as the company’s broader commitment to sustainability.
- silver medal: Mattel recognizes Fisher-Price Planet Friends line of products that use post-consumer recycled plastics and shares knowledge about the chemical safety of recycled materials in toys for young children.
- bronze award: Smoby toys for their Smoby’s Life – XL Slide, Made from at least 70% recycled plastic.
- Special Recognition Award: The LEGO Group for Its impact in engaging and educating children about sustainability and empowering the voices of young people around the world.
